In the country side, on the banks of Tauber river and directly on "Romantische Straße" ("Romantic Road") there is a small village called Distelhausen, a district of Tauberbischofsheim. As the name suggests, "Distelhäuser Brauerei" (brewery of Distelhausen) is situated here; it is one of the medium-sized breweries in the German beer sector. The brewery was founded in 1811 as Brewery Womann and in 1876 acquired by Ernst Bauer. The brewery is owned by the Bauer family since that year.

In Distelhausen, 23 different kinds of beer are currently produced according to traditional regional brewages. Due to the long-lasting and trustful co-operation with domestic business partners and gastronomy and because of the tight coupling with regional suppliers from agriculture, industry and services, "Distelhäuser Brauerei" considerably supports regional economy in Franconia of Tauber River since the raw materials used are traditionally mainly from the region.

The brewery is a founding member of the Die Freien Brauer (Independent Brewers) initiative, an association of medium-sized private breweries in Germany and Austria. As early as 1956 the brewery involved its staff in various forms in the profits.

Bottle shared with J at Maakun’s, catsitter tasting. Black with tan head. Sweet roasted choco malts, iron. Medium sweet, light bitter. Medium body, soft carbo, choco feel, nice roast flavor, bit metallic but still very cold.

Bottle at Maakun’s, shared w/the cats. Black/firm brown tan head. Sweet roasted malts, choco malts, light ash, coffee ground. Medium sweet, soft ground bitter. Medium body, quite some carb for a stout, supple feel, bit metallic & dusty in the finish.

Bottle at Maakun’s, shared with the cats. Pours black with firm brown tan head. Sweet roasted malts, choco malts, light ash, coffee ground. Medium sweet, soft ground bitter. Medium body, quite some carbonation for a stout, supple feel, bit metallic and dusty in the finish. Otherwise very nice.

Bottle 330ml. @ home on the terrace. [ As Distelhäuser Distel Blond ].Clear medium yellow color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, fruity malt, moderate hoppy, flowers, fruity hops. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a long to average to long duration, grain - wheat, flowers, hops, grass, fruity hops - fruity malt, pale malt, light fruity - citrus, medium dry. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20160723]

Aroma is moderate malty, dark malt, bread - dark bread, roasted, sweet malt. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to light light moderate bitter with a long to average duration, roasted, dark malt, bread. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. Bottled 330ml. -Courtesy of kajser27, shared with him and Marko. Deep black coloured, medium sized brown head, chocolate in the nose. Roasted malt, chocolate, light cocoa, notes of caramel and mild roasty finish. Quite simple and drinkable beer.

Black colored, medium creamy tan head, not very lasting. Aroma is of malt, chocolate, some nutty notes, coffee. Taste is medium- sweet malt, chocolate, some roasted malt, medium- bitterness, dark chocolate aftertaste and rather good lasting. Medium- bodied, soft carbonation, bit oily. (bottle, Hol’AB! Thanks kajser! Poured black with amber tinges. Off white to tan head, light. Bready sweetish aroma, lovely sweet maltiness, chocolate, fruity in a way, but I can’t define it. Fig meat? Quite nice. Light taste, chocolate, light caramel, mild roasteness, metalic, dry finish. Bit too light. Very light alcoholic touch in the finish.

Bottled@PBF XI. Black colour, small brown head. Aroma is liquorice, hops, some tart wood, mild floral and coffee notes. Flavour is coffee, roasted malts, some smoked wet wood as well as some quite dry bittery notes to it.

330 ml bottle at Ulfborg. Clear dark brown color with beige head. Roasted malty aroma, nutty, caramel, bread, light coffee and chocolate, raisins. Light sweet and moderate bitter taste. Almost medium oily body with soft carbonation.
