Description
In the country side, on the banks of Tauber river and directly on "Romantische Straße" ("Romantic Road") there is a small village called Distelhausen, a district of Tauberbischofsheim. As the name suggests, "Distelhäuser Brauerei" (brewery of Distelhausen) is situated here; it is one of the medium-sized breweries in the German beer sector. The brewery was founded in 1811 as Brewery Womann and in 1876 acquired by Ernst Bauer. The brewery is owned by the Bauer family since that year.

In Distelhausen, 23 different kinds of beer are currently produced according to traditional regional brewages. Due to the long-lasting and trustful co-operation with domestic business partners and gastronomy and because of the tight coupling with regional suppliers from agriculture, industry and services, "Distelhäuser Brauerei" considerably supports regional economy in Franconia of Tauber River since the raw materials used are traditionally mainly from the region.

The brewery is a founding member of the Die Freien Brauer (Independent Brewers) initiative, an association of medium-sized private breweries in Germany and Austria. As early as 1956 the brewery involved its staff in various forms in the profits.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pale golden with a touch of haze. Nice, creamy head that stays up. A bit of sweetish malt in the nose, malty body with a rather pronounced hoppy finish. 040605

(Bottle 50 cl) Now known as: "Distelhäuser Hefe-Weizen". Beautiful orangey golden, surprisingly almost clear in the beginning with the sediment rather hard to shake loose. Not a very lively head either. But there’s nothing wrong with neither aroma nor flavours. Lots of the typical fruit-esters with notes of banana etc. Rather nice Hefe. 270505

(Bottle 50 cl) Now called: "Distelhäuser Dunkles Hefe-Weizen". Pale brown and unclear, slightly off-white head that last all the way through. Highly carbonated. Incredibly lovely fruit-esters with lots of citrusy notes. Some underliying sourness. Not that much to add - a great experience. 160505

(Bottle 50 cl) Dark amber-coloured, slightly off-white head. Surprisingly high carbonation. I would normally expect a light caramel-sweetness in a beer of this type. But here I find a rather harsh hoppiness. Slightly disappointing. 270405

Re-rate from Bottle: Good spicy and roasted wheat notes, fruityness is the same. Fullbodied, chewy, a bit fizzy. Ryebread aftertatse, cherries, clementine retronasal. Certainly seems a lot more comlex this time around. Old rating: 6 4 6 2 11 Light banana and berry aroma. Cloudy orange-brown, fluffy off-white head. Lightflavored weizen: A bit grain, banana and berries. Light body. Lacks kick.
