Description
In the country side, on the banks of Tauber river and directly on "Romantische Straße" ("Romantic Road") there is a small village called Distelhausen, a district of Tauberbischofsheim. As the name suggests, "Distelhäuser Brauerei" (brewery of Distelhausen) is situated here; it is one of the medium-sized breweries in the German beer sector. The brewery was founded in 1811 as Brewery Womann and in 1876 acquired by Ernst Bauer. The brewery is owned by the Bauer family since that year.

In Distelhausen, 23 different kinds of beer are currently produced according to traditional regional brewages. Due to the long-lasting and trustful co-operation with domestic business partners and gastronomy and because of the tight coupling with regional suppliers from agriculture, industry and services, "Distelhäuser Brauerei" considerably supports regional economy in Franconia of Tauber River since the raw materials used are traditionally mainly from the region.

The brewery is a founding member of the Die Freien Brauer (Independent Brewers) initiative, an association of medium-sized private breweries in Germany and Austria. As early as 1956 the brewery involved its staff in various forms in the profits.

A bit hard to shoehorn, could be a dark Vienna as well. Fruity malty nose with a bit toast. Orange amber color, little visible carbonation, nice frothy head. Soft fruity malt flavors dominate, a tad nutty, dry hops towards the end. Creamy mouthfeel, slightly flat. Nourishing.

Old rating: Fresh grassy nose with a slight grain background. Pale golden, champagne bubbles, fine foamy head. Ok balanced, but anonymous flavor. Rather disappointing flat mouthfeel and light body. I had better. Re-rate: Aroma is strangely fishy now, flavor is nicer - fresh grassy hops, good sparkly chewy mouthfeel, lingering hops. fresh.

Very classic Weizen: Banana and clove nose. Cloudy yellow, good creamy head. Banana and vanilla tastenotes. Slightly fizzly mouthfeel. Simple, clean and good wheat beer.

A ggod straight forward Maerzen beer. Nice smooth beer - a clean malty flavor. Probably only available in Germany. Have yet to be disappointed with any Distelhaeuser beer.

Bottle. Primarily banana malt aroma with hints of peach, orange and cloves. Cloudy yellow tan color with large head. Primarily a sweet banana malt flavor with hint of clove. Very nice body. A very good sweet, full-bodied Weizen.

Grainy, fruity aroma. Good clear pils. The barley flavor really comes out in the taste. Moderate hops flavor - a bit on the bitter side. A very pleasant pilsener.
