(On tap) Hazy copper brown with slight white head. Lovely smokey aroma. Medium body, lightly carbonated. Flavour is rich and smokey. The smokiness works well; it is distinct without being harsh. There’s some sweetness, maybe date or fig. There’s also some interesting drying acidity that reminds me of dry white wine. The high alcohol content is well hidden. Overall an unusual and very drinkable smokey beer.

Hazy copper coloured body complete with tons of chunks of sediment floating in the beer and eventually settling on the bottom. Thin, half centimetre tall pure white head. Aroma of alcohol, lemons, malt, cleanser and a bit of grass - not too much here. Light-bodied; Assertive effervescence with a little earthy and coriander seed flavour from the malt, with a hint of curacao and some light sweetness. Aftertaste shows a subtle yeast characteristic, a little grassy hops and a tiny alcohol warmth at the end. Overall, a bit better than I was expecting and quite complex for the length I’ve had this! I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from GlenGarry in Auckland (Devonport), New Zealand on 22-July-2008 - best by date on bottle of 09-November-2008, this was sampled almost five years past that date - on 08-July-2013 at home in Washington on the opposite side of the world, in celebration of my first daughter getting her very first passport.

Bottled. A brown beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of malt, fruits, and bread. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, bread, and caramel, leading to a bitter finish.

Bottle, 10C. Clear reddish amber with a frothy beige head. Aroma of toffee with some nuts and chocolate. Light bodied. Tastes as it smells except for bright pepper and some light Kiwi tropical fruit notes. Moderate bitterness, dry finish. Just a little more body would have been nice, but it’s refreshingly gluggable with some personality.

Pours copper with a non-existent head.Nose shows bark, smoked malt, caramel and honey.Tangy flavours, along with a fair whack of smoke. Not sure if the acidity is intentional, but in any case, it certainly doesn’t detract from the experience.Needs more carbonation.Pretty weird stuff. The acidity doesn’t really work with the smoked malt.

Bottle. Honey golden color with lace. Huge honey aroma, fruity and very sweet and cloying. Sweet, honey and pilsner malt flavor; light hops, slightly tangy. Very sweet, cloying. Light body. Somewhat saved by a slightly dry finish.
