Description
It started with two longtime friends, a cousin’s basket press, and a brother’s apple tree. In cliché terms, the rest is history. Tyler Butcher and Logan Barger have been friends since the days of Little League Baseball, and have grown up going to the same high school and rooming together during their college years. It was then that they got their first taste of cider. Years later they decided to give it a go at making hard cider themselves. Many batches later, their family and friends actually enjoyed drinking the cider they were making. Kekionga Craft Company was no longer just a thought, it was about to become a reality.
Kekionga Craft Company found its home in a historic apple mill located on the northeast side of Fort Wayne, IN in the fall of 2016 and opened its doors in June 2017. Since then they have went from just four taps in the tasting room to now fourteen and an ever expanding menu including wine, mead, and beer.

The cidery is making the occasional beer now. I hear they use Gnometown’s facility to brew it. This is a hazy copper gold pour with a lingering white head. The aroma is pretty fruity. Citrus and tropical. The flavor is at most moderately bitter, maybe less. To me it’s closer to a hazy ipa. Alright. Good fruity characteristics. Medium body.

This is a nice semi dry mead. It’s somewhat toasty with some graham cracker coming through to join the honey flavors. Chocolate and marshmallows as the menu says? I don’t know about that. It’s subtle if noticeable at all. It’s an enjoyable mead though.

Well, it tastes and smells of sugary grapes and apples. It’s too sweet. I suppose these fruity, sugary things sell well, but while this isn’t a bad cider, I really wish the sweetness was toned down some

Well, it’s a gold lager. It has a big, quickly fading white head. It’s… fine. I mean, it has a grainy malt aroma and a similar flavor that’s somewhat sweet with some bready taste and very mild bitterness. Light bodied. Eh.

Pours lightly hazy yellow. This smells odd. Musty. It’s not pleasant. The taste is similar. It’s somewhat sweet and quite thin. It does not get better as it warms, quite the opposite. Pungent. Terrible. Something is very wrong. I can’t finish this cider. How disappointing.

Pours clear deep gold. It smells of oak and honey. The flavor is sweet with honey and oak. I don’t get a distinctively rum character but the barrel aging works well for this enjoyable mead.

Pours clear light gold. It smells of honey and maybe oranges. The flavor is lightly sweet and fruity with berries and a citrus character. Not sure why I think citrus when it’s apparently made with strawberries and rhubarb, but it’s pretty good.

Pours pale, lightly hazy yellow. It smells of honey and wet paper. The flavor is somewhat sweet with honey, a wet paper/cardboard off taste, and some alcohol. This isn’t good. It finally showed up on untappd a couple weeks after I had it and the first couple reviews don’t mention any problem, which makes me wonder if I got a bad batch and they pulled it.

Pours pale gold and mainly smells of apples. The flavor is lightly sweet and HOT. This has a seriously hot spicy finish. I should have had it at the end of the flight as the heat lingers for a while.

Pours clear pale gold. Smells of caramel apple and vanilla. The flavor is sweet with apples, caramel, and vanilla blending together nicely. I like it more than I’d usually like something this sweet, but something about this flavorful cider makes it work well.
