Description
It started with two longtime friends, a cousin’s basket press, and a brother’s apple tree. In cliché terms, the rest is history. Tyler Butcher and Logan Barger have been friends since the days of Little League Baseball, and have grown up going to the same high school and rooming together during their college years. It was then that they got their first taste of cider. Years later they decided to give it a go at making hard cider themselves. Many batches later, their family and friends actually enjoyed drinking the cider they were making. Kekionga Craft Company was no longer just a thought, it was about to become a reality.

Kekionga Craft Company found its home in a historic apple mill located on the northeast side of Fort Wayne, IN in the fall of 2016 and opened its doors in June 2017. Since then they have went from just four taps in the tasting room to now fourteen and an ever expanding menu including wine, mead, and beer.

Pours lightly hazy yellow. It has a big fruity aroma. Apples and… watermelon? I’m not sure why I thought of that. The flavor is pretty sweet and very fruity. It’s a bit sugary but mostly keeps the focus on the fruit. Quite enjoyable.

Pours clear pale yellow green. There’s a pleasant ripe apple aroma. The flavor is very dry. Smooth apple flavor is joined by some alcohol presence and a clean, dry finish.

Pours clear amber orange. The aroma is full of vanilla and the flavor is quite sweet. It’s somewhat sugary with apples, vanilla, plum. It’s okay. Not surprisingly it’s a little sweeter than I’d prefer, but it’s kind of interesting.

Reddish pink pour. It smells rather like Hawaiian Punch. It tastes like it too. Fortunately it’s not quite as sweet and there’s some apple under there, but it’s still sweeter than I’d prefer. It’s alright.

This cider has a nice strawberry heavy aroma. The flavor is sweet with strawberries and apples. A little tartness cuts the sweetness somewhat. It’s not great but I prefer it to the watermelon gumballs, which is too sweet. Their previous strawberry cider, Strawberry Kisses, worked better for me.

This cider has an aroma of OJ and not surprisingly some apple. The flavor is very sweet OJ and apples. Medium bodied. It’s very straightforward and is too sweet for me. Note: I confirmed the OJ is added at some point before it’s done and kegged, not added by the bartender.

Pours clear gold with minimal to no carbonation. The aroma is distinctive, a musty smell with a hint of coconut. The flavor is very dry with tart apple, oranges, and coconut. Finishes dry and a little bitter. This one’s really different.

Mostly clear light gold pour. The aroma is mild with apples and some pithy character. The flavor is mostly dry with some light apple sweetness and a little bitterness in the finish. Not sure about funk. I’m not getting it. This is alright but I was hoping it would bring the funk.

This cider has a rich apple aroma though less tart than the Withered. The flavor is pretty dry. Some tartness. Not sure why the menu says still as it seems lightly carbonated. It’s an enjoyable dry cider.

Described as “blended ferments, think Granny Smith”. Well okay. It’s a hazy, pale cider with an aroma of tart apples. The flavor is dry and tart with not much booze given the abv. I like it.
