Taster at the Carter Payne. Pours an opaque, yellow color, with a big, frothy, white head. The nose is nectarine and grapefruit. Coriander, hay, and lemongrass. Sweet and citrusy, with a fair, sharp bitterness. Medium body, acidic, and sharp. Nice, fruity, and tasty.

Taster at the Carter Payne. Pours black, with a small, bubbly, beige head. The nose is coconut, dark chocolate, caraway, mild earth, and star anise. Sweet and chalky, with a mellow, herbal bitterness. Heavy body, chewy, and thick. Weird, and surprisingly tasty.

Taster at the Carter Payne. Pours black, with a small, bubbly, beige head. The nose is espresso, chicory, mellow blueberry, caramel, and maple. Sweet and malty, with a mild, earthy bitterness. Heavy, syrupy, and chewy. Quality, interesting, and balanced.

Draft at the Carter Payne. Dark, reddish, brown, with a small, beige head. The nose is brown bread, vanilla, cinnamon, and toffee. Sweet and very malty. Heavy body, syrupy, and chewy. Clean, interesting, and tasty.

Draft at the Carter Payne. Bright, unclear, orange color, with a small, foamy, white head. The aroma is lemon peel, light red wine, leather, marigold, toast, and butterscotch. Sweet and fruity, with a bright, easy bitterness. Light to medium body, smooth and soft. Beautiful, balanced, and very interesting.

On tap at the brewery. Pours black, with a smaller, bubbly, tan head. The nose is chicory, pumpernickel, mild coffee, caramel, cloves, and toasted oak. Sweet and roasty, with a mellow, earthy bitterness. Heavy, chalky, and thick. Complex and delicious.

On tap at the Carter Payne. Pours a hazy, yellow color, with an average, foamy, white head. The nose is passion fruit, papaya, orange peel, pine sap, and some butterscotch. Surprisingly dry, earthy, and astringently bitter. Medium to heavy body, chewy, and thick. Hard, aggressive, and quite tasty.
