Slim 330ml bottle picked up at Centra Colosseum in Oslo. Shared with Finn back home. A fine rusty brown shade to a clear mahogany coloured body. Small beige layer. Smell of caramel malts, slightly roasted. The caramel malts in the taste profile are joined by nuts and dried fruits. Subdued roasted bitter ending. Mid-dry and smooth. Medium to thin bodied. Well worth buying and drinking (Tromsø, 13.10.2011).

50cl bottle. Pours golden with at first a nice head. This fades over 5 minutes and the bubbles are very gentle. The nose is dominated by breakfast cereal and this is not a lager which has much citrus fruit on it. On the palate it’s more big pale malt tastes but it cleans beautifully with a hint of citrus. The palate is medium bodied with a reasonable texture and a nice clean finish. Overall, a good example of a Czech lager.

330 ml bottle @ Cardinal. Clear deep golden body with a dense off-white head. Aroma reminds me of sweet bread with hint of caramel. Flavor is quite sweet malt, caramel, moderate bitterness and a hint of butterscotch. Medium body, moderate aftertaste and frankly a bit boring.

50 cl bottle, BBE 26.8.2011
Aroma has roasted malts, bitterish chocolate and hints of coffee. Flavour is typical to dark czech lagers, sweetish but not too sweet though. Roasted malts and hints of metal. Drinkable stuff, but nothing special actually.

Lahev z Pivoteky: Deep golden, small lacy white head; veggy-papery nose with a woody (hoppy) background; dry bitter flavour, light bodied; distinctive "woody" traces in the tart and bitter finish. Unharmonic, sharp brew,a not very bohemian-like Pilsner.........

Re-rate - appearance lacks head this time, but much stronger nose - liquorice, coffee, chocolote. Taste, more of the liquorice and some coffee. Previous rating 5/4/6/5/13 = 3.3 50cl bottle. Pours a really interesting black with a ruby hue around the edges. The nose has initially very little going on but then a delicate amount of coffee comes through. The taste is creamy at the start but it builds to intense chocolate. The palate is medium to big in structure, a very creamy texture and then a beautiful clean finish. Overall, creamier than I expected from a schwarzbier - the palate really makes this one.
