Description
Founded in 2012, we’re a craft microbrewery located in a historic 100-year-old bakery called The Bread Box on West 6th Street in Lexington, Kentucky. We brew and can our beer out of that location, and it’s sold at bars, restaurants, grocery stores, and liquor stores throughout the state of Kentucky (and across the river in Cincinnati, OH). We pride ourselves on the beers that we make and the impact we have on the communities we’re a part of.

We focus our brewing talents on a wide variety of beers – we produce and can styles ranging from our flagship West Sixth IPA, to our Pay it Forward Cocoa Porter. In our taprooms in downtown Lexington, we have 15-20 West Sixth varieties on tap, along with occasional special bottle releases from our Sixfold and Barrel-aged series. Now a team of more than 40, we focus on brewing beers with quality and creativity that we’re proud to serve to our friends, and most importantly, that we like to drink!

That said, we measure our success as a company not just on the beer that we make, but also on our social impact in the communities we’re a part of. We support the direct work of nonprofits in our area through programs like our Pay it Forward program and 6th for a Cause. We are environmentally conscious in everything we do (did you know nationwide, 70% of aluminum is recycled and only 20% of glass is?). And finally, we strive to be an awesome place to work, offering discounted CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) benefits, private staff yoga classes, and employee ownership.

Crowler from the source, crowled on 11/18/14 and forgotten in my fridge until today. Extremely dark clear brown color, thick beige head with good retention and solid lacing. Nice aroma of dark milk chocolate and caffe macchiato. Taste is smooth, rich bittersweet milk chocolate. Delicious. I normally would not have rated this one, since I screwed up by keeping it this long. But I was also curious about whether the beer would be any good. And I was very pleasantly surprised. Still, don’t try this at home. Drink them fresh.

Refrigerated 12 oz. aluminum can, an extra from shrubber85, poured into a glass. Dark brown with crimson highlights, medium beige head which dies quickly. Aroma is spice, medium body, medium carbonation, and good small-bubble lacing. Taste is lots of spice. Too many competing spices for me and heavy.

Can. Ginger, nutmeg, cardamom, and toffee malt aroma. Hazy brown with moderate tan head. Sweet, spicy toffee malt and lightly bitter herbal flavor - spice pretty intense - nutmeg seems to be most apparent but otherwise hard to differentiate. Good balance.
