Description
Urban Chestnut Brewing Company, with three locations in St. Louis, is an unconventional-minded yet tradition-oriented brewer of craft beer. We like to call our unique brewing philosophy Beer Divergency - a 'new world meets old world' brewing approach wherein UCBC contributes to the 'revolution' of craft beer with artisanal creations of modern American beers, and pays 'reverence' to the heritage of beer with classically-crafted offerings of timeless European beer styles.

(bottle) Hazy, murky golden colour with a loose medium-sized and off-white foamy head. Rather discreet aroma: yeasty, mildly cara-malty with fruity, slightly flowery and sweaty hops. Moderately sweet and mildly bitter flavour, medium bodied with a calm carbonation. Slightly bready malt character with a whiff of caramel, backed by citric and mildly piney hops; dry-ish and moderately malty finish with resiny and mildly fruity hops. 04.X.14

Draught@SBWF2014. Hazy reddish amber colour, small head. Aroma is fruity, floral, some wooden notes as well as some slight sour wooden notes. Flavour is a nice sweetish sour wooden/syrupy thing with some earthy and slightly bittery notes.

Draft. Caramel/light butterscotch and barley malt aroma. Pale yellow with small head. Sweet light butterscotch malt and light orange peel flavor. Good but not a typical SIPA - not sure if my glass was from an older keg.

Keg at SBWF. Clear dark amber, miniscule head. Tart apply nose. Light bodied with clean mouthfeel. Caramel and red apples, some peppermint. Low bitterness. Confusing, and not really all that pleasant.

Pour is a cloudy orange with a huge white head. Aroma is a moderate amount of citrus hops after the head dies down. Flavor is again a ok hop presence with some grainy malt and a thin mouthfeel. Finish is a bit watery but the hops stay around for a while. Ok I guess. It’s a session alright as things are a bit too light all around.
