Description
Urban Chestnut Brewing Company, with three locations in St. Louis, is an unconventional-minded yet tradition-oriented brewer of craft beer. We like to call our unique brewing philosophy Beer Divergency - a 'new world meets old world' brewing approach wherein UCBC contributes to the 'revolution' of craft beer with artisanal creations of modern American beers, and pays 'reverence' to the heritage of beer with classically-crafted offerings of timeless European beer styles.

Tap @ Urban Chestnut. Pours a hazy red/orange appearance with an off white head. Fucking weird off note in the aroma and slightly in the flavor which my best guess was sulfur. Metallic, blood orange, old citrus fruity, sweet flavor. Really hard for me to drink or even smell.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of jcnielsen. Thanks Jetson! Pours a hazy, dark orange appearance with a cream colored head. Slight DMS, cooked veggie, nutty, roasted malty, lightly phenolic aroma. Tangy, burnt roasted malty, nutty, tangy, strangely sweet flavor with a fair earthy/herbal element also going on. Maybe it would have been better fresh?

Bottle @ home, courtesy of jcnielsen. I’m not going to lie- I’m excited as fuck to try this, but am a bit nervous based on the amount of homerism that occurs in STL. Here goes... Pours a cloudy yellow-orange appearance with a white head. Fairly spicy, huge phenolic, banana, clove, vanilla, a bit overly yeasty, lemon nose. Very spicy, chewy yeasty, clove/nutmeg, a touch tart citrusy flavor. Hmmm, not necessarily off, but the yeasty elements seem to be overdone. Not bad but not worthy of the 99th percentile in my opinion.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of jcnielsen. Thanks Jetson! Pours a fairly hazy, golden yellow appearance with a diminishing white head. Lemony, light veggie, straw, light creamed corn, a bit herbal aroma. Uh oh. Tangy, light to moderate DMS, herbal/straw, somewhat chewy malty flavor with a fairly dry finish. Off but not off in a really horrible way- maybe they can clean this up. Update: tried on tap at Urban Chestnut and the DMS is still there. Goddammit, I really wanted this to be good.

Bottle. Coffee aroma dominates - wheat malt and possibly banana hidden in there. Cloudy brownish yellow with small head. Strong very earthy coffee and light wheat malt flavor - slight hint of lemon in the finish. Really was doubtful about a combination of coffee and weizen but really not too bad - this type of coffee seems to dominate the subtler weizen characteristics though.
