Draught at the brewpub. Dark brown colour, sparkling. Good stable tan head. The flavour starts off rather watery. Turns very mildly roasted, faint hint of rye bread. Also finishes watery. Not much body, seems to be watered down after fermentation. Not too bad, but too thin.

On draught at the brewpub: Hazy, chestnut-amber coloured, stable lacy off-white head; grainy-hoppy nose with a nutty-chocolatey touch; light bitter-sweet flavour, light bodied, not watery; light bitter-dark-malty finish. O.K., not a separately brewed beer IMO, but a diluted "regular" Kathi-Bräu............

Bottled. Deep amber colour, mediumsized beige fluffy head. Aroma is sweet malts, some nuts, earth and mild notes of grass. Flavour is grainy, rubbery and slightly sweet malty. Also some caramel. To be re-rated on occasion.

Bottle (10dl) Amber coloured, bigger, quite persistent, almost creamy off-white head; moderate sweet dark-malty nose with a shy, but distinctive hoppy background and a touch of barnyard; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, soft MF, quite "full" bodied for a beer of 4.8%; sweet-malty and bitter finish. A well crafted and well rounded franconian brew.............

(100cl bottle, purchased at the brewery) Clear, dark brown colour with a solid beige foamy head. Sweet and quite rich toast-malty aroma with light notes of caramel, nettle-like spices, barnyard and whiffs of herbal hops. Moderately sweet flavour, light to medium bodied, soft and pleasant carbonation. Dark malt-character, slightly toasted with notes of (milk) chocolate; quite dry, sweet and slightly bitter, lasting malty finish with a chocolatey toasty aftertaste. Very good dark Lager (13.02.08).

12/10/9/10//9

Draught @ brewery tap, Aufseß-Heckenhof, Oberfranken/Bayern, Germany. Clear medium brown color with a average, creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, nutty, moderate yeasty. Flavor is moderate sweet, light light acidic and light to moderate bitter with a average duration. Very nice and refreshing. Body is light to medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft. ;o)) (181007)

Medium offwhite head of large bubbles, clear dark red body. Smoky, meaty aroma, not too strong. Taste is deep, but not really strong. I’d be hard-pressed to describe it, but the aftertaste is quite bitter. Overall quite hoppy. A very good example of the Franconian dark lager. (0.5l mug on tap at the brewery outdoor serving.)
