Draught at EBF, 2/3/17.
Glowing copper-honey body is quite hazy and the orange/beige-flecked head is small and shows moderate to low retention.
The nose doesn’t give up much of the habanero (nowhere near as much as the flavor, anyways), but provides tons of juicy citra-like hop notes with plentiful mango, pineapple and bright orange notes. Alcohol is surprisingly, or very surprisingly even, concealed beneath an appropriate malty backbone of rich honey, dough, biscuit, etc...
The mango and pineapple hit first and as is generally the case with habanero, it hits midway or near the end, slowly at first but building up in to a spicy, flavorful burn that lingers nicely. The hops aren’t drowned out, however and the malts, while sweet and rich aren’t "mushy" or underattenuated. No alcohol or flaw. Very, very spicy, which I love, but I think it all works pretty well and finds some semblance of balance. Obviously this is still an excessive beer, but that’s nice once in a while.
