Description
In 1861 the 25-years old Heinrich Schneider decided to found a brewery on the “Grün’schen Hof” in Hachenburg. The Hachenburger brewery soon became the most important family brewery within the region. With business leader and co-owner Jens Geimer the family-owned company has reached the fifth generation and is still entirely independent.
Key to the success is that the beer is consistently cooled, the precious beer has achieved its special aroma over and over again for 150 years. What was true then is still true today: the long and cold ageing process is a fundamental requirement for a real Hachenburger as well as the use of high-grade raw materials. As well as the natural spring water from the Rothbach valley

750ml bottle. Clear darkest amber to brown colour with average to huge, firm, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, reawakening, moderately lacing, off-white head. Cautious roasty dark malty aroma, fruity hoppy overtones of (baked) red apple, unripe pear, a dry touch of fruit parings. Taste is initially dark malty with a touch of roast, later minimally sweet unspecific fruity (maybe apple), with dry overtones of fruit parings (Williams Christ pear), a touch of wood, leather, vanilla, almost like whiskey barrel aged; in the finish dry dark malty, minimally roasty, minimally bitter hoppy. Not a brute malty Porter, rather a bit cautious and subtle, but fairly complex overall.

750ml bottle. Cloudy amber colour with average to huge, firm, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Floral hoppy aroma with some fruity notes in the background, grapefruit, mango, also hints of red currant. Taste is minimally to moderately sweet, unspecific fruity, fruit acid, a dry note of fruit parings, later minmally toasty caramel malty notes appear in the background; also a dry note in the finish. Subtle sparkling carbonation. Nicely balanced brew that way better accentuates the unagressive, subtle notes of their self-cultivated hop than the IPA.

Bottle. It pours an almost clear body, golden in color and topped by a small, dense, white head. Grains and bubblegum dominates the aroma. Some banana and a spiced touch too. The flavor is pretty much the same, pale wort and bubblegum, with some banana, lemon, cloves and bitterness. All quite weak. Grainy, wort like finish with some bubblegum and banana. Thin on the palate, with quite low levels of carbonation. A rather poor one. 121111

500ml bottle. Cloudy orangey golden colour with huge, lasting, frothy to creamy, white head. Intense fruity and minimally wheaty aroma, peach, apple, pear. Taste is initially minimally sweet fruity, peach, later with a touch of citrus, in the finish with some husk. In spite of the lively, micropore carbonation still a smooth mouthfeeling.
