Pours dark amber with off white head. Toasty malts and light hop aroma. Sweet caramel and nutty flavors. Medium body with light carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel.

Hazy dark blonde colour with an inch-thick head. Slight apple accent for the base wheaty nose. Strange, like very sweet but overripe apple. Has some rustic charm but is ultimately less effective than other hefes.

Golden-brown colour with a light head. Has a somewhat fruity aroma, lots of caramel with some herbal hop accents. Light herbal hop flavour with a moderate bitterness, combined with a breadcrusty, lightly caramelly malt base. OK, could stand to be more expressive.

Bottle as Schwarze Weisse (5.0%) from D&J Liquor in St. Louis, MO. Pours a dark cola color with a frothy tan head. Aroma is rather roasted caramel with something like grassy/spicy hop. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is dark malt, mildly sweet, with lots of spicy hop. Spicy, not bitter. Finishes a bit thinner than it started, but the nice flavors hold on to the end and beyond. Very drinkable.

.5L bottle-pours a big to shaving cream tan head that laces and cloudy brown/orange color. Aroma is nice, sweet medium malt/wheat-caramel, clove (tettnang hops). Taste is sweet medium malt/wheat-caramel, clove (tettnang hops), spicy/earthy hops-bitter, peppery, slight banana, semi dry. Mouth feel barely average as there are as many detractors as pluses, like, the initial good effervescence gives way to thin.

Bottle. Pour is a light yellow/gold with a bit of a head and grainy and grassy aromas. Flavor is mild with a bit of a peppery edge to the hops to compliment the grass and malt flavors. Not bad, but fairly refreshing.

Nice package, flip top brown bottle. Not much aroma, just plain old clean and beery. pale brownish with streams of continuous bubbles constantly rising within. Somewhat sharp palate at first, but not lasting. Fairly mild and enjoyable. Easy to drink and easy to enjoy. Mild linger after finish.

0.5L bottle poured brown with a slight haze and weak off white to tan head. The aroma is a bit light and yet distinctively fruity with Concord grape jam, black currents and boysenberry. If there is a malt or wheat note in there somewhere it’s really faint. The taste is just like the aroma but includes mild tart acidic fruitiness before a tepid level of malts rise up at the finish in the face of the stronger dark fruity notes. It seems to become roasty with a dash of chocolate malts into the finish and a bit beyond.
