Description
In 1857 the Zwickau brewery association (Brauverein) was founded, the brewery opened two years later. In 1889 the Zwickau brewery association was converted into a stock corporation (AG). In 1946 it became a a state-owned company (VEB). In 1990 the Mauritius Brewery was founded and in the same year it became a subsidiary of the Dinkelacker brewery group. In 2004 Dinkelacker became part of InBev. In 2005 the Mauritius brewery was purchased by its management, and thus releasing it from the Inbev brewery group, to become a Privatbrauerei. Finally in 2018 the Mauritius brewery was sold to the current owner Jörg Dierig, as managing partner, and Dinkelacker-Schwaben Bräu GmbH.
Down-to-earthness, loyalty to the region, a lot of love for beer and the art of brewing - that's what the Mauritius private brewery Zwickau stands for. We work closely with the people of our region to preserve traditions, but at the same time to actively work on the future of our homeland. Our slogan sums it up:
"Zwickauer Mauritius. A sip of home." (''home'' is of course Heimat in German).

(bottle) Clear, pale golden colour with a fluffy white head. Sweet, slightly grainy aroma with a shy herbal hoppy touch and a tinge of cookies. Moderately sweet flavour with a tinge of sourness, medium to light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Soft grainy and biscuity malty taste; sour doughy and a faint bitter finish. Not really bad but too slim for a Bock, lacks the heart-warming character of a good Bock (11.VII.09).

Bottled. An amber beer withi a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel, and so is the flavor, but also light notes of cardboard and eggs. Thanks yespr for sharing.

Test vom 1.1.2009, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 10,6,7,5,7,5 - 6,05
