Description
In 1857 the Zwickau brewery association (Brauverein) was founded, the brewery opened two years later. In 1889 the Zwickau brewery association was converted into a stock corporation (AG). In 1946 it became a a state-owned company (VEB). In 1990 the Mauritius Brewery was founded and in the same year it became a subsidiary of the Dinkelacker brewery group. In 2004 Dinkelacker became part of InBev. In 2005 the Mauritius brewery was purchased by its management, and thus releasing it from the Inbev brewery group, to become a Privatbrauerei. Finally in 2018 the Mauritius brewery was sold to the current owner Jörg Dierig, as managing partner, and Dinkelacker-Schwaben Bräu GmbH.
Down-to-earthness, loyalty to the region, a lot of love for beer and the art of brewing - that's what the Mauritius private brewery Zwickau stands for. We work closely with the people of our region to preserve traditions, but at the same time to actively work on the future of our homeland. Our slogan sums it up:
"Zwickauer Mauritius. A sip of home." (''home'' is of course Heimat in German).

The bottle looks really good. The beer in the glass is very zippy, but no foam. Nasty aroma - chemical and soapy. Tastes strong and spicy. not too alcoholic, modest sourish finish. Very drinkable. Good bock!

Bottle. Very dark brown, maybe even black, with a big beige head that diminishes slowly. Aroma has quite a lot of toasted bread and caramel, nutty notes and slight roastiness with coffee hints. Sweet flavor, big on malts, with caramel, dark bread, faint fruity notes and a semi-dry finish with a bit of alcohol and light herbal hoppiness. Medium to full-bodied with a slightly oily mouthfeel. A really good Dunkler Bock.
