Bottled blend of 1972, 73, and 74 vintages. Bought in 2010 and served at about 28 C. Medium to dark brown with lots of orange tints. Not at all cloudy. Caramel color. Funky aroma of caramel, nuts, very much like Chinese 紹興酒. Something slightly acetic as well as soy sauce-like. A bit of fruit, such as Japanese plum. Acidic, sweet, and fruity flavor, with over-ripe ume and prunes, caramel, raisins, miso. Hot alcohol finish that is just slightly harsh and also a bit bitter and funky, with a cheesy flavor hanging around on the back of the tongue. Thick and smooth while not quite reaching syrupy. This is a very interesting drink. Sweet and big, not as perfect as other aged sakes I have had, but tasty and good.
