Established 2017, Macalister Brewing Company is located at the base of the picturesque Macalister Range, 20 minutes North of Cairns, in Smithfield. We are a small microbrewery, producing a range of craft beer by hand, for the love of beer. Our founder and brewer Rob – an industrial Chemist by trade – taught science for 10 years at the local high school, before throwing caution to the wind and pursuing his lifelong dream of opening a brewery. A couple of local homebrew competitions wins fuelled the obsession, followed by a state and a national category win. This then led to a 4-year Graduate Diploma in Brewing Science at Federation University, and finally, along with the unwavering love & support of wife Rachel (Hoppy), Macalister Brewing Co was born.
