Description

Thank you for sharing people! Sampled bottled @ “Gouda Winterbier Festival 2016”. Dark brown. Nose is sweet licorice, herbs, big candy, spices. Taste is sweet licorice, candy, herbs, odd bay leaf notes, raisin, sweet leaves. Licorice & spices. Strange but also a bit appealing. Not entirely for me but it seems that I liked it quite a bit more than others.

Draught as a smaller serving, same size as of the ones that were part of a flight at the brewery bar (Stadsbrouwerij Eindhoven) on December 11, 2015.Hazy dark brown color, teal head, plenty of lacing left on the glass. Spicy, light toasted, grainy taste. Fizzy mouthfeel, medium bitterness. Grainy, alcohol aftertaste. Sweet, alcohol, spicy scent.

Draught as part of a flight at the brewery bar (Stadsbrouwerij Eindhoven) on December 11, 2015. Stated to be 7.5% ABV.Sold as one of the brewery’s own beers, but as of info from RB user Benzai was told this should be rated under Brasserie Bours, and the Euforie 2.Clear dark amber to brown color, off-white to teal head, plenty of lacing on the glass. Malty, some bread crust, mineral, bitter, pith taste. Citrus aftertaste, some resin. Medium to smooth mouthfeel, medium though dry, bitterness. Citrus, caramel, a bit alcohol scent, also some green like hops. For me would benefit from using less early hops in the boil and more later on, also likely for my taste to dry hop (more) to get a fresher hop character. The rather dry bitterness might come from a high sulfate concentration in the water, puts me off some.

Draught as part of a flight at the brewery bar on December 11, 2015.Black color with hints of dark brown to the top, teal head with lacing. Herbal, spicy, some alcohol, a bit bitter taste. Medium to fizzy mouthfeel, medium bitterness. Bitter, spicy aftertaste. Alcohol, malty, spicy, solvents scent. Stout, really?Only thing stating stout in this beer for me is the color and head, perhaps a strong/imperial dry stout with a bit too much herbal character and too evident CO2 could be it? Anyhow, as always rating the beer as of personal preference and not "to style", just feels like the recipe is not worked through and calling it a stout makes me think you’re not too sure of what that style actually is. Alcohol is coming through too much for me, especially mixed in with the solvents in the scent. Not a bad beer, but nothing I’d focus on getting to drink again either.

Draught as part of a flight at the brewery bar on December 11, 2015.Very dark brown to black color, smallish tan head, no lacing. Light acidic, vinous, clove, spicy, light astringent/harsh like bitter taste. Spicy, alcohol, clove aftertaste. Lingering afterbitterness. To the fizzy side mouthfeel, medium high dry bitterness. Alcohol, spicy, solvents scent. Spicy aftertaste.A bit heavy on the spices, bitterness (bit too harsh too) and alcohol for my personal liking, even though I do often enjoy well balanced high ABV beers with spices. Perhaps with a fuller body, more residual sweetness, better masked alcohol, softer bitterness and a bit less focus on heavy spice, the beer would have risen quite some bit for my taste, as it is now falls on a few too many points as needing work done in many areas. Happy with just the smaller serving, would not like to drink a whole bottle of this batch of beer.
