Description
Anchor is America’s first and oldest craft brewery, with roots dating back to the California gold rush. Today, our beers are handmade from an all-malt mash in our traditional copper brewhouse. Our process combines the time-honored art of classical craft brewing with carefully applied, state-of-the-art modern methods.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is fruity and a bit tropical with citrus, pineapple, pale malt, some mango. Flavour is moderate to medium bitter with some dryness in the finish. Medium body. A bit rudimentary, citrus-forward, but easy and characteristically Anchor.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Amber coloured ale, slightly hazy wirth a pretty thin head. Has all the typical ale-charachteristics with caramel and a scent of flowers. Pronounced, dry hoppiness.

(Bottle 20,1 cl) Copper coloured, slightly hazy from impurities, almost no head. Extremely fullbodied with an avundance of flavours that almost "explodes" in the mouth. Malty sweetish almost fatty beer with a strong warming alcohol. Comes in a neat 7 ounce bottle "perfect for sipping". 3.6

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Anchor Steam is the very essence of American microbrews but is now a pretty major brand and no longer from "one of the smallest breweries in the world". Amber coloured with a decent head. Has a nutty full body with a pronounced hoppiness. A bit brown ale-ish - but in a style of it’s own. Is Anchor Steam losing some of it’s character? I find it a bit overrated in general. 2.9

(Bottle, 35,5 cl) All the Anchor beers wakes up good memories from my US road trips back in the 90es. Oh sweet innocence... Tar-like blackness with a slightly creamy, brownish head. No extra added fermentables or carbon dioxide. Fat and powerful, sweet almost port-like with a dry hoppiness on the palate. Very interesting Porter. 3.0

Not making detailed notes. It's just a spicy Xmas wonderfulness. A little light on carbonation. Still has the evergreen and cinnamon aspects.

Bottle from lowcostbeer, 5 months in date surprisingly. Clear gold, small white consistent head. Aroma is fairly sweet with notes of grains, lemon, resin. Smooth body and with a soft carbonation. Fairly malty and bready but with decent hopping, there is a lemon and floral note to it and a rising moderate bitterness. Nothing particularly amazing but the sum of its parts makes it a very well brewed lager. Its difficult to fault.

Bottle from Connolly's Wine Merchants entitled '2021 Merry Christmas Happy New Year'. Pours quite thick black with moderate beige head. Aroma of malt, cinnamon, dark fruits, nutmeg. Taste of malts, molasses, Christmas spice, dark fruit, some roast in the finish with a slight coffee and herbal bitterness. Good beer although could have been even better. I just feel it might be missing something to bring it all together.

355 ml bottle from Honest Brew. Clear copper colour with small white head which leads to a nice creamy consistent top. Aroma of malts, caramel, grass and something almost resembling a mixed berry compote. Taste is malty, caramel, light berry notes, grass, earth, herb like bitterness. Light to medium bodied, smooth, soft carbonation, dry. Enjoyable.

355ml bottle, forgotten where I purchased this. Was in the fridge but had left it out for an hour. Black pour, with small beige head. Aroma of liquorice, coffee, treacle, chocolate, figs. Very inviting. Taste is quite dry and liquorice noted, before other elements come in, quite rich, tangy and bitter. Slightly sticky mouthfeel. I would have liked a bit more fruitiness to offset the rich notes more but for me that that's the only difference between a very good beer and a great beer.
