Description
Anchor is America’s first and oldest craft brewery, with roots dating back to the California gold rush. Today, our beers are handmade from an all-malt mash in our traditional copper brewhouse. Our process combines the time-honored art of classical craft brewing with carefully applied, state-of-the-art modern methods.

(Bottle) Black colour with big, frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with fresh coffee, dark bread, dark chocolate, raisins, red berries and treacle. Malty, roasted taste with notes of coffee, black bread, burnt sugar, raisins, liquorice, dark chocolate and a balanced coffee bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Really tasty and well made with lots of fresh coffee. Very nice.

Darkish dull amber and a thick head. A nice bit of fruity hop but not much bitterness.

Mostly meh, with a stale fruity hop note, uninspired malts. It’s not bad but comes across substandard.

Dark amber, hazy, thin head. Sweet, rye bread, on the palate spicy with rye, some fruitiness. Leans sweet. Drinks way easier than the 8.4% would indicate.

Dark brown, thin head. Toasty, light, a but of cocoa. Drinks pretty quick. I know I personally prefer a bit more residual sugar and hop bitterness but this is balanced and good.

Hazy but dull, pale amber. Sweet and fruity with a bit of tartness. Lots of kumquaty, calamansi sort of citrus in here, maybe pineapple sorts of notes as well. It’s okay.

Opaque, slightly dark blonde. Thin head. Bitter, so much pithy grapefruit. A bit of malt sweetness and a lot of alcohol and grapefruit bitterness to it.

Slight haze and pale amber. Thin head. Grainy, some malt sweetness but husky, low bitterness and minimal hop character. Decent beer but aiming very basic.
