Description
Telegraph Brewing Co. was Santa Barbara’s first craft brewery. Brian Thompson founded the Belgian-inspired brewery in 2006.

Early American brewers adapted traditional European brewing techniques to the unique ingredients, climates, and tastes of the New World. At Telegraph Brewing Co., our beers are handcrafted in that same manner at our brewery in Santa Barbara, California. Making use of as many locally grown ingredients as we can, Telegraph's ales embody our philosophy that a local brewery should reflect the traditions of its region. Our goal is to produce uniquely American beer styles that are imbued with a spirit of invention and creativity, but always with a nod toward history.

In 2017 Utah-based Epic Brewing purchased Telegraph.

750 ml bottle from Enniskillen’s cellar, paid for by my sweat! Nose of light, tart, horseblanket, and some wheaty yeast. Cloudy gold with a large white head. Flavor is tart with light corriander, cloves, and citrus and a peppery finish.

Bottle from Monument in Concord, CA. Bottled 12/22/2008. Pours dark brown with a large, frothy tan head. Smell is dominated by zinosity, but there is underlying roast malt and perhaps chocolate/coffee. Near medium body with mild carbonation. Flavors of dark malt, chocolate and coffee. And in the finish the zin aspect pretty much takes over. Finishes towards astringent; might be oak. Nice stuff.

Picture sent in to be uploaded. Marked as Telegraph Reserve Wheat Ale (red label). Was not expecting it to be sour till I smelled the beer, then investigated on the label. Pours with a large, foamy white head that stays over the murky yellow body. Aroma is tart and earthy, with coriander, candied ginger, light banana esters and orange peel. Taste is lightly sour and earthy with spices, fennel, tartness, coriander, citrus sour, and orange peel. Lively and dry mouthfeel.

Bottle. Pale yellow beer with a nice white head. Tart, oaky, apple aroma with wheat backing. Tart (somewhat lactic) flavor with lemon and green apple and wheat/malt backing. Medium bodied. Lactic tartness lingers. Well put together and adds more than what many of the just Brett beers do now.

Pours with a huge, foamy light brown head and a murky deep brown body. Very interesting aroma. Notes of peppers, spearmint, peppermint, cocoa powder, bananas, baking chocolate, flour, cinnamon, allspice and twigs. Taste is chocolate, and earthy with notes of earthiness, christmas spices, woodsy, sweet and minty with leather in the finish. Very lively carbonation.
