10th October 2008. GABF. Sweet woody brown ale. The brandy is there but is nicely judged and doesn’t dominate. Dry finish.

Schooner pour at Elliott Bay Burien (~ 10 oz pour). Pour is hazed white golden with an almost greenish tinge to it. One inch white head leaves a thick sheet of lacing. Aroma of spice (orange peel, coriander, grass) soft floral, and round soft Belgian candi sugar (quite sweet, almost honey). Another wave of orange peel citrus appears at the back. Taste is coriander, clove, grassy wheat and the soft sweet Belgian candi sugar. As with the nose, the sweetness takes on a decent sized honey element. Palate is medium, thirst quenching with a lingering spice finish.

~ 8 oz pour on tap at the Elliott Bay Burien location. Pour is black with some minimal hazed ruby, capped off by a one inch tan head. Nice sheets of lacing appear as the head falls. Nice looking beer. Aroma of big red wine Syrah and oak wood notes. There is a soft Port / Sherry grape sweetness. Under that maybe light roast, though its really overpowered by the red wine. Taste is mostly about the Syrah red wine, very much verging into sweetish Tawny Port territory. The Porter notes are almost not present, and the oak and wine became even more pronounced as the beer warmed. Finish had some grape skin tartness and finally some of the roastiness you might associate with a Baltic Porter. Palate is medium full, mouth coating and very much dry like a wine. As mentioned, the finish was hot, tart and a bit roasty. Overall, way too much wine and Port for me.

Happy to see someone finally listed this on the site. I wish I had more info in Dec on this one and I would have listed it. Any how. On tap at the Burien brewpub location. Pours out a dark amber topped with a small head. Aroma was of roast malts and a nice floral hop. Tast was a nice sweet caramell and more of the rich malts. A nice hop end.
