It pours a dark brown body under a small, dense, beige head. The aroma is chocolatey, roasted and with some coffee and charcoal. It’s quite dry on the palate, with a soft carbonation. Full body. Chocolate, coffee and roasted malts in the flavor, with a good bitterness. Pine cone notes. Lasting finish with chocolate and bitterness. A bit one dimensional this one, but nice too. 150227

Crisp, very slightly hazy amber and copper coloured body with a touch of off-white head, about a centimetre tall. Aroma of guess what - raspberries, sour lactic notes, hints of oak and dryness and a bit of light honey - very nice smelling. Medium-bodied; Assertive malt, yeast and fruit flavours dominate with a beefier body than I expected, but still a pleasant sweet raspberry flavour that shows some signs of sourness. Aftertaste has a light caramel, honey and apple taste, but the malt and raspberries again dominate. Overall, a rather one-dimensional beer, but some aspects of the yeast and dry flavours come out, but this is all about the raspberries sitting one layer on top of the malt. Still, I enjoyed this beer and wouldn’t mind trying the other flavours, should I ever find them! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Alexandria (Old Town), Virginia on 02-March-2014 for US$7,99 sampled at home in Washington on 06-February-2015.

Split a 22oz bottle. Poured a orange-copper color with a small off white head. Aroma was some blackberry notes, light yeast, sweet malts. Flavor was light sweet malts, a touch of Belgian notes and a bunch of blackberry notes. Kinda enjoyed this one.

22oz bottle. Poured a clear orange-copper color with a small off-white head. Aroma was mostly pumpkin notes, some gourd or perhaps yam notes, maple. Flavor was light spices, but certainly sweet. Cinnamon and nutmeg.

Rich copper and bronze coloured body with a thin off-white head, about a centimetre tall. Aroma of squash, caramel, allspice, cardamom and a bit of earth and mushrooms. Medium-bodied; Very strong, way too pungent metallic twang with hints of blood, iron and just plain bitterness. Aftertaste shows hints of caramel, the faintest bit of spices and a grassy, herbal note that isn’t too pleasant either. Overall, a pretty poor beer, especially from this brewery, which usually produces decent offerings. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Crystal City Wine Shop (20th Street Location) on 30-September-2014 for US$5,99 sampled at home in Washington, a few steps away on 23-October-2014.
