At the cabin on Black Oak Lake. Dark brown with a frothy, beige head. Chocolate aroma. Oats. Fudge. Taste is mildly bittersweet up front, moderate burnt bitter at the back. Body to the light side of medium, watery texture, which is the main flaw here. I like my oatmeal stouts with a little more chewiness. Decent, though.

Brown with a frothy, beige head. Woodsmoke aroma with a touch of fudge. Taste is roasted bitter throughout. Very faint acidic undertones. Lingering smoke. Body to the light side of medium, mildly watery texture. Tasty and easygoing. Good Rauchbier.

At the cabin on Black Oak Lake. Pale gold with a light haze. Frothy white head. Aroma has mild cereal tones with a squeeze of lemon. Taste is mildly bitter and lightly citric at the finish. Light bodied, mildly watery texture. Quite simple in the end, but refreshing and quite clean, especially for the style. Great way to open a beer drinking evening.

Black as night with a frothy, light brown head. Aroma of burnt oatmeal and dark chocolate. Taste has a robust, toasted bitterness. Faint oatmeal sweet undertones. Lingering bitter and burnt. Body bordering on heavy, mild carbonation, chewy. Really liked this one.

Hazy yellow with floaters and a foamy, white head. Grapefruit and white wine aroma. Taste is bitter with an acrid, citric finish. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. The acridness and lack of juiciness keep it from feeling all that refreshing. Ok.

From the can on our first night in Wilmette. Sad to read this brewery is already out of business. Didn’t take any notes while rating this over dinner, but it was nicely balanced. Juicy, citrus undertones, a touch sweet, with a bitter finish. Decent chewiness. Good.

Gold with a frothy, white head. Aroma full of dough and plastic. Taste has a dough-like, white bread sweetness. Finishes watery instead of bitter with the sweetness falling away and leaving a big dose of nothingness. Body to the light side of medium, watery texture, refreshing in its odd way. Tolerable.
