Cask at the Barrel Drop, Nottingham. Black with a tan head and a pleasant frothy mouthfeel - good conditioning on this one. The flavours of roasty malt, chocolate syrup, and a touch of ash are a bit on the muted side. It's ok overall

On tap at the Barrel Drop, Nottingham. New cidery for me. Rich gold; no carbonation. Dry apple juice, quite tannic, some leather, all set against a vanilla background. Good balance of rough tannins against the smooth vanilla. Definitely on the dry side of medium-dry. Pretty good stuff, I really enjoyed this.

Keg at the Barrel Drop, Nottingham. New brewery for me. Pale gold with a lasting white head, but with an annoyingly prickly fizz. Pleasing lemon & lime to the fore. There's a little butter before a grassy note emerges in the lightly drying finish. Decent apart from the fizz.

Visited August 2025. Smaller than expected, felt a bit dark and claustrophobic despite being immaculately clean and tidy. About 15 Japanese beers - the usual Japanese big 3, plus a small range from Suntory and Karuizawa. The saké range looked decent (although I should stress I know nothing about saké!). The takeout fresh food (bento boxes, sushi, etc) looked amazing; I'll definitely have to come back and try that sometime (although I'd probably take it out rather than eating it at the cramped tables in the middle of the store. Prices are pretty much as you'd expect. Overall I was a little disappointed with the place after hearing good things about it.
