Practically attached to Jiriho Z Podebrad metro station. A tiny door leads you immediately downstairs, through 2 very small rooms, to the main one, where the bar and most of the tables are. Quite low lights, rock music but far from too loud, no issues with talking. Big neon board at the bar with the 32 taps list (though a few empty). And it's a huge and varied selection indeed. About half czech (mostly the modern leaning craft breweries, obviously several taps from Sibeeria) half foreign (belgium including a lambic tap and at least 3/4 franconian lagers, a pleasant rare sight in Prague, plus a sort of partial tap takeover from a french brewery i don't know); not many classic lagers (one from Sibeeria and Krohcelavy's 10° Svetle [excellent]), which is not super satisfying to someone like me who comes to cz for that, but this is obviously a spot for local geeks who rightly want to differentiate. Quite a lot of cans in a couple of fridges too, didn't look close though. All in all, a wide, varied and quality selection. Service was a bit slow, one guy was doing it all by himself, can't blame him; nice and friendly anyways. Food: only tried chicken wings and they were super good. Fair prices for food, pretty good for beer too on the overall (yes, maybe higher than usual for the city, but that's stuff you mostly don't find elsewhere, and if you compare the prices with europe's average for these kind of beers, they are actually low). Overall: indeed very much a place for geeks and tickers, which is not exactly my ideal type of venue, but also a very good pub on the overall (food, prices etc.).

There are a couple of very good reasons for wanting to come here, and many very good reasons for not wanting to come here. Let's start with the good ones: the place has a lot of history and it is, in it's own (atmosphere aside), stunningly beautiful. Too many words would be needed to describe the historical halls, but the garden is beautiful too. But most of all, the tmave is not only a milestone for the style, it's a stellar beer. As for everything else: the place is just a huge tourist trap, and they don't even try to hide it. It's huge, really huge and it can accomodate hundreds of people, traditional czech food looks very much industrial (obviously) though admittedly i tried it only a few years ago. Looked at the prices for food and while typically central Prague high, they were not as outrageous as i remembered. The atmosphere gets very loud (they tend to pack people in the same space when there would be room avialable elsewhere) and the accordion players doing stuff like "that's amore" are not exactly traditional and actually mildly annoying. Service is the worst though: aggressively trying to give you shots of liquers, which are not free though they act like they are, at the point of getting almost menacing (and again pretending it's "czech tradition"), or trying to give you another glass of beer before you even finished the one you have etc. (Remember to cover the glass with your coaster if you don't want more, they'll make ticks on a paper to count for your beers). And they are ALWAYS around you like vultures, permanently looking at ways to scam you. Prices for beer: 79 for a 0.4, highish even for touristic Prague, but worth it for the tmave. Two decent grades are somehow deserved: it is despite all a beautiful place and while only 2 beers are avialable the tmave itself gives 'selection' a different meaning. The rest is just awful. So, if you want to go, try to make the best out of it by not getting scammed and enjoying your beer, if you can in the frankly enraging atmosphere. Hopefully one day this place will be run in a way that's respectful of it's history. As for now, it is what it is.

A compact all white building on the exterior. A vaulted all white ground floor area with some wooden tables and a larger basement area, again with wooden forniture. A bit of patio by the street and, in the basement, a hall that serves as dancing hall, for concerts etc. Apparently, it can be a very different place depending on when you visit. Around lunchtime, it's a quiet place with locals enjoying their meals. In the evening/dinnertime the place gets packed and lively with young locals and activities in the aforementioned hall. We got very friendly service at lunchtime, but a very rude one at dinnertime (as soon as the waiter noticed we were not czech she said there was no room. When we mentioned we had booked [which we really did, though she didn't bother checking] she squeezed us in the corner of a table, with the occupants far from happy about it. Plus, we got served cold plates. Anyway, we/i got nice treatment in all other visits, so i won't be too pissed about it). Several of their beers on tap (3/4 lagers, 7/8 ales), plus a few different ones avialable in cans. Lagers are excellent, but they are usually pretty good on ales too. And so is the food (when not served cold), with a tendency towards modernly revisited czech cuisine. Prices are not as low as usual for non central Prague, but that's not uncommon in the quite trendy Vinohrady neighborood; given the quality of both beer and food i'd say they're fair. Overall: beerwise only, an excellent location, but also a good eating option.

The beautiful baroque monastery of Brevnov is on a hilly green/park area in the west side of the city, kind of same road but further far from center to their brother in brewing monastery of Strahov. While Strahov gets all the tourist attention, this place is mostly for locals and definitely beautiful in it's peaceful and relaxed but slightly austere atmosphere. As for the Sypka itself, you'll find it on the left after entering the monastery grounds, while the Klasterni Senk (restaurant with their beers) is on the right side. This is the taproom (though they have some snacks and small ready plates avialable). Beautiful outside area in the monastery garden, with wooden tables. But the real treat is the Sypka (barn) itself, the vaulted former barn on the left of the entrance, with it's minimalistic atmosphere and classic wooden forniture. Basic service: order and pay at the counter and bring your stuff to your table, fine at that. 6 of their beers on tap, plus a fridge for takeaway; they have a mix of traditional lagers (high quality) and other styles (didn't try). The food, as mentioned, is very basic: everything ready to be served, snacks and small plates, but fine enough as a side. If you want a proper dinner you can go to the Senk. Fair Prices for both beers and food. Lovely place!

A neighborood brewery in Prague 4, not too periferic but definitely far from tourist reach. Walkable distance from Vysehrad metro station (10-15 minutes), but the easiest path from city center are trams 6 or 14 with Otakarova and Namesti Bratri Synku respectively as your stops. A very traditional looking place, simple wooden interior with some tables outside. A restaurant on one side and the brewpub proper on the other, with different entrances, but they seem to be communicating. Pretty large inside. But... Maybe just unlucky, but lots of dogs going around the place freely and sticking their wet mouths and noses in my legs (there's a dog statue near the entrance, dunno...) plus a bird on a perch making louder and more pointed noises than you could imagine for a bird of that size. That aside, service was fine, didn't eat. 5 of their beers on tap, with their lezak plus 4 modern styles; tried only a couple, so-so quality. Prices for beer are definitely honest, i'd say average for non central Prague, didn't look at food menu. All in all an ok place, but my experience wasn't super good.

In the Holesovice area, a very short walk from tram stop 'letenske namesti'. Looks very small from the outside, actually not too small on the inside, with 2 rooms plus a tiny patio on the (very quiet) street. The place has a laid back, friendly atmosphere with a pretty young clientele and very friendly service. Indeed very much and mostly a cafè (some people had beer on their table, but many had not); still, they have their own beers as a plus. 6 were on tap (i guess more or less the usual standard) with a good range of modern styles + a 10° pilsner; looked like a seasonal oriented tap list (for summer: light gose, sour saison, blanche, pale ale...). Also a small food menu with a few vegan/vegetarian options avialable. Awesome super popular prices (though the plates are smaller then usual for czech standards, which still means average for more or less everyone else's standards). Overall: super nice place. If it's just beer, there are better options in the city (they are very much ok, but nothing exceptional from what i've had); but as for everything else, it's really lovely.

Very central but slightly off the touristic delirium. A renewed looking place inside white painted vaulted halls, quite big (ground floor + basement, a few rooms in both). Modern wooden forniture, low lights. It's a taproom + restaurant for a so-so brewery (though very traditionally czech, even in it's penchant for diacetyl, which i sort of appreciate). 5 of their core beers on tap (8, 10, 11, 12 + 13 polotmave), one special/seasonal, a fridge with PET bottles for takeaway. Well: while the beers are so-so (the 8 did it's job as a refreshing thirst quencher however) the food was pretty good, with efficient and kind service (not many people around though). Prices for food are perhaps slightly lower than average for prague center (especially the ones in the daily menu), and definitely lower for beer. Overall i ended up liking this place: beerwise it's just a taproom with the core beers of a so-so brewery, not much worth it, but as a lunch/dinner option in central prague it's a fair choice.

6.6/10 — Appearance 7 Aroma 6.5 Flavor 6.5 Texture 7 Overall 6.5
Pours dark golden to orangeish, pretty hazy for a kellerbier. Medium sized, quite dense and soft looking white head, shows good retention and average lacing. Moderate intensity in the aroma: mainly soft maltiness, with white bread/bread crumb, cerealy and caramel hints, some vague fruitiness (can't pick anything specific), maybe a thin hint of grassiness on the back of things. A very much ok, soft-feeling aroma, but not very defined/nitid or vivid. Very much the same in taste, both with taste notes and general feeling. Low to medium sweetness, quite low bitterness, some sweet edge in both taste and aftertaste, plus a not 100% pleasant earthy feeling in finish/aftertaste (though indeed very mild). Quite light in body, low to medium, delicate franconian carbonation; nicely smooth with a hint of softness. Last words: still a nice, highly drinkable keller on the overall, but a bit imprecise or possibly slightly off.
