The 330 ml can I have came from Smaakhuis early this year. I have learned to appreciate a quadrupel aged in wine barrels, that used to not be the case. So let us see how Kees handles it. A Chimay glass is ready and I take the pour. The view is a dark brown-almost-black liquid carrying a bare ring of taupe foam and I also notice an extremely active carbonation. Lifting the glass for the smell I get initially a strong vinous effect along with a floral quality, chocolate, grain and some additional yeast esters. I take a taste and am surprised by how good the beer is. Still with the wine and the chocolate, dark raisins, baked bread, dates, a hint of oak and malt. A dense and deep brew, a fine sensation. Quite nice overall.

The original KBS was rather good, all the subsequent ones have been good or somewhat less. Caramel is a decent choice for an adjunct, time for a try. A chalice ready to receive, the bottle is opened and I pour. Mahogany tones in a black liquid and a sustaining cover of parchment foam. I smell sweetness, coffee, chocolate and grain. The taste does not vary much from the nose, I get dark chocolate, char, pecans, wheat bread, some caramel and a small bitterness. A decent imperial stout, not so different from the other KBS beers with their various additions imho.

I found a 16 oz can at Mr. T's locally, opened now and headed inside of a snifter. The view is a mostly clear, pale yellow liquid with a definitive absolutely white head of foam. I smell, well, it is fruity and that is about all I can determine. The drink is more distinct, there is a noticeable hoppiness, berries, a cane sugar sweetness, grain, peaches and a small bitterness at the finish. The decently high abv is not obvious. Interesting beer, not quite my thing, but I have no complaints.

Pint can acquired from a liquor store in the Chicago area several months ago. A cooler early June evening, I believe it’s time to sample this brew. My favored New Belgium globe glass gets the duty, I open the can and make the tilt. Dark gold body with a minimal white head. The nose is nice, I’m a long time in-between tripels. Extremely ripe yellow fruit, grain slightly, yeast and perhaps some spice. I take a sip and then more. Apricots initially, white bread, a karo syrup sweetness, yellow plums and a bit of booziness.Nice and thick, on the heavy end for the style, this pleases me. A good domestic tripel.
