Deschutes looks to be getting in the 19.2 oz convenience store single can business. Give the market what people want to buy these days it appears. No problem to me. The stovepipe can I have came from a QT convenience store in the area near the stadium where the Texas Rangers play baseball, brought it home to sample. Severely chilled in a bucket of ice water, I open the can and pour a touch into a small clear glass. Basically clear in color, certainly no strawberry influence here. There is a strawberry smell and citrus too if I try really hard. The taste is actually pretty good in the universe of malt liquors. Strawberry certainly and I get more lime than I do lemon. Still citrus in any case. A beer that is easy to drink. Not overly sweet, tastes similar to a strawberry margarita and there is the 8% abv to show itself later.

A 12 oz can that came from the local beer shop, I do appreciate the style considerably so the bar is set high. And they are hard to find. My Buffalo Bayou tulip glass is ready and I take the pour. I see black, of course, in the body and a thin but steady cover of creamy tan foam. The scent is roasty, hoppy and also gives off some pine. A drink delivers roast, a touch of chocolate, cedar, a nice hops bitterness and some earth. Nice.

The third of four in the series, a pint can bought from a liquor store in the Chicago area. A progression towards what I hope are the better ones, I have a New Belgium globe glass ready. An ink black pour with a steady skim of dark tan foam, it delivers like a can of motor oil. I take a smell, geez this is good, bakers chocolate, pecans, baked wheat bread and toasted malt. The drink starts with a thick sensation I appreciate. Following is chocolate malt, coffee, scorched toast, a touch of toffee, a boozy background and a decent bitterness concluding. Rather well done and yes, this is the best of the three tried so far.

I have a 16 oz can delivered by Half Time in upstate NY early this year. Great Heights tulip glass in place and I take the pour. I see a mostly hazy yellow-gold body with a moderate top of completely white foam. I take a sniff and find fruit, citrus and tropical, in varying amounts. A drink now, not bad really. Grapefruit, pineapple, a spot of papaya and hops to a lesser degree. I get a plush and full mouthfeel from this beer. Pleasant IPA.

Not positive where I got this beer, but itโ€™s Dogfish Head, I have my expectations. 12 oz can opened up and tilting inside of a Buffalo Bayou tulip glass. The view is a shiny but dark gold-amber body topped with a fine and creamy head of parchment foam. Lots of carbonation. Yessir, I smell pine and that is not a bad thing. I have a drink, wow, where did that come from? Spruce tips must be spruce tips and there is plenty. Itโ€™s like Iโ€™m drinking a beer out of my cedar chest. Nice depth in the sensation experience. I can appreciate a change for changeโ€™s sake but this is a one and done.

Another Voodoo Ranger IPA from New Belgium, geez they produce a lot of them. 12 oz can that came from the nearest large supermarket. I begrudgingly bring out a snifter to go with this beer, usually the VR brews donโ€™t justify one. I pour to see a pleasant looking, clear gold liquid finished up by a creamy head of unquestionably white foam that steadily settles. I lift the glass and smell citrus and some tropical and am not surprised. A taste gives oranges, a hint of pineapple, grain and minimal bit of hops. Sort of thin in sensation. My expectations have been met.
