A spruce-infused pale ale, Pennsylvania Tuxedo pays homage to the flannel-suited hunters and gatherers who dwell deep in the backcountry of north-central PA.
Brewed in collaboration with family-run outdoor clothing company Woolrich, Pennsylvania Tuxedo is a sessionable concoction with a grassy citrus kick complemented by the resinous conifer notes of fresh green spruce tips. We went into the forests of north-central Pennsylvania and Georgetown, Del., to pick these fresh tips ourselves.
A dry yet doughy malt backbone lets the hops and spruce shine while still balancing out the bitterness, making this one an easy sipper.

Sample 16 oz. can sent by DFH. Pours a tawny amber to red beer under a big puffy head. A comfortable American hop nose, and yes, a whiff of evergreen needles. The initial mouthfeel is kind of sticky. Taste has definite but mild alcohol notes and a kind of spruce-y tingle. Despite having some unusual ingredients, the beer goes down nice and mild. Fits between a sipper and a lawnmower beer.

Refrigerated pint can poured into a glass. Clear amber with medium/big white head. Aroma is herbal hops, medium body, medium carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is caramel malt and nice spruce tip finish.

I'm a sucker for a beer brewed with spruce tips. Alaskan winter ale is one of my old favorites. This one similarly did not disappoint, The spruce tips manifest themselves with a fresh evergreen fir quality that is exceedingly unusual in beer (and food). If green was a flavor this would be it. Aroma and flavor do not exactly match up with the aroma suggesting a fruitiness that just did not manifest in the tasting. But that's ok. This is not a session-able beer. This is a beer to be contemplated and savored. I enjoyed this with a bit of pepper jack cheese and found the contrast of the creamy cheese infused with chili peppers paired wonderfully with green fir and created a memorable tasting. The only negative I have is that at times I thought this beer had slight a medicinal quality. I will buy this again.

12 fl oz bottle, drank in California 9at my daughters) on 16th Dec 2019. Full beige head on a hazy light brown body. Hoppy little number, strong resinous/piney aroma and taste, some malty sweetness also runs through the beer; hides it's alcohol content nicely.

Bottle. A- Soapy, caramel, pine, citrus, juniper. A- Copper color, clear liquid, off white head. T- Thyme, caramel, spruce, citrus, herbal, mild bitterness. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- This is a DIPA I can stand behind. A woodsman IPA if you will. Lots of forestry notes filled the aroma and palate. The herbs came across as a floral resinous flavor rather than outright bitterness. Lovely stuff.
