A beer in a pint can from the close-by HEB supermarket. Poured inside of a Cowtown snifter, the appearance is an orange-gold body finished by a minimal amount of very small white bubbles. Fortunately I do see a healthy carbonation. I smell yellow fruit of some kind, a hint of hops and cereal, all somewhat nondescript. However the taste is a different story. Sweetish apricots, white bread, malt, syrup, citrus to a small degree, just enough hoppiness to account for and liquor. A fine sensation in the mouth, quite full. The brewery aspires for a top end IPA, this one veers more towards 120 Minutes than 90 Minutes if you get my drift. Potent abv in the mix, we shall see. Well worth the $3.99 purchase price. It turns out that this is a Saturday evening on July 4, pretty big deal in the USA.

There is this 12 oz can bought from a NY state retailer in the spring, ready for tasting now. I have my first and favorite sampling glass from New Belgium ready and now I take the pour. A brown-black body with a hefty head of mahogany foam that quickly shrinks to a tan skim. I smell the wood immediately and do get some chocolate also. The drink is rather good, I've had experience with amburana wood in a a few previous beers and like it. So, the amburana presence is strong, it tends to squeeze out much of any other taste. There is lightly some dark chocolate, whole grain bread, caramel and a touch of coconut. The sensation is full and includes some booziness. I am enjoying this one as a sipper, no reason to hurry.

Another 19.2 oz can from Deschutes found at a convenience store near Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas some months past. Steel Reserve had and has again a pineapple flavored malt liquor that I thought was one of the best in the style ever. Now to see if this brewery can match that. I have the can inside of a koozie, no glass or paper bag this time. Flip the top and take a sniff, it is a legitimate pineapple smell. The drink is equally good. Pineapple definitely but more like if it was a pineapple hard candy, perhaps a spot of citrus and also a hint of vanilla from somewhere. No indication of the moderately elevated abv but there is still plenty of time and it is a big can.This is an easy to like malt beverage, I would give it a 5.7 if the site would let me. 5.8 instead.
