TBone Profile - Brewver

A huge bar complex, naturally bearing the mark of a tourist trap. But at the same time a nice, stylishly decorated place. Merch sales greet you right at the door. Best for tickers: opens at 9:00 AM on weekends and 11:00 AM on weekdays. 12 beers brewed on-site on tap, plus naturally a few Irish ones. No flights. A couple I tasted were quite good. Maybe not a must for an authentic Chicago beer tour, but a must-go for tickers.

A light-colored brick building with a large marquee at the entrance showing the way. Inside there’s more light brick, wood, and wall murals. It gives the impression of a slightly run-down bar. A 4 x 5oz flight is available ($12). Just under 20 beers and other drinks on tap. The beers are good, especially a couple of barrel-aged stouts that were excellent. Even though the place was otherwise a bit meh, it’s worth visiting for the beers.

A brewpub on the street corner. The steel tanks on the second floor are clearly visible from outside. It’s a quite modern-looking place with a square bar counter in the middle. A six-beer flight is available. Maybe around eight taps? The food is good. The beers are quite good, so it’s worth visiting.

A rather low brick building with a terrace area in front. Inside there’s brick and light wood. It’s a fairly narrow, long space. They have 16 of their own taps. Unfortunately, there were no flights or tasting portions available. Off Color is a genuinely high-quality brewery that’s worth including in larger Chicago beer crawls. They also had fun merch on offer.

Fiala Brothers brewpub is located right in the center of Normal-Bloomington. The tall brick building on the street looks more like a regular bar-restaurant than a brewery. The interior is a pleasant combination of stone floors, dark wood, and brick walls. Steel tanks are visible behind the bar. They have about half a dozen of their own beers on offer, but among the 24 taps you can also discover interesting beers from small Illinois breweries. Their own beers are quite okay – nothing groundbreaking, but… fine.

Golden colour and small white head. Light sweet malty hoppy aroma. Light-bodied. Flavour is clean, light fruity. Not much rye.
