Hazy orange colour, medium-sized white head. Quite sweet tropical fruity aroma (mango, apricot). Medium-bodied. Flavour is also sweet, mango, apricot, some citrus but low bitterness. Malty and tad too sweet 6% IPA for my liking.

A low single-story building. About 700 meters away was Callsign Brewery, which was closed at the time of our visit (Monday). The interior is quite interesting: dark round wooden tables and black chairs. Sports were shown on TV screens. About ten of their own beers on tap, with a nice variety of styles. A six-beer tasting flight was available ($20). The beers varied in quality, but some were very good. Definitely a worthwhile visit.

Downtown Shawnee has three breweries worth visiting on the same trip, all within 200 meters of each other. A low red-brick building, like the other Shawnee breweries. The interior is minimalist but features colorful chairs and surfaces. A four-beer tasting flight is available. In terms of quality, this is clearly the weakest of Shawnee’s three breweries.

This is one of the three breweries in downtown Shawnee. You can visit all of them in one go; we parked the car near Transport Brewing. A typical Midwestern low brick building. Outside, there’s a cool brewery mural on the wall. Terrace tables line the street. Clean, slightly clinical interior. At the time of our visit, they had 9 of their own beers on tap plus a couple of guest taps. No tasting flight. A neat wall made of cassette tapes. The beers were otherwise average, but the milk stout Policy of Truth was excellent.

In downtown Shawnee, there are three breweries within close proximity to each other. Shawnee is near Kansas City, and we came here to visit in Kansas. I believe there was a parking lot next to this one where we could park the car. The brewery’s exterior has barrel-made standing tables. Inside, there’s a lot of wooden structures. A smallish taproom with about a dozen beers on tap. A five-beer tasting flight is available. The beers were average, but ok.

A typical Midwestern single-story red-brick building. A bar with tables in two rooms. Bare stone floor, otherwise clean decor, good service. Likely 13 of their own beers on tap. Four- and six-beer tasting flights available. The tasted beers were average, but Stout of Valor was excellent.

According to locals, this is one of KC’s best breweries. It’s not far from Boulevard Brewing, so we left the car there and walked about 400 meters to Alma Mader. A single-story brick building. Pretty typical American brewery taproom vibe. No tasting flights. Nine of their own beers on tap. Good service. Decent place, the couple of beers we tried were good. Worth combining with a Boulevard visit.

The Boulevard Brewing area is massive for a craft brewery. We initially had trouble figuring out which building to head to. The brewery is hugely popular, packed with people even now (it was Saturday), and the parking lot is full of cars. They had at least twenty of their own beers on tap. A four-beer tasting flight is available. There’s a wide range of styles, including plenty of experimental and strong beers. The food was good, and the service was excellent. When we mentioned we were from Finland, the bartender gave us a couple of extra drink vouchers. Boulevard is one of the Midwest’s “must-visit” beer destinations.
