Farmhouse Pale Ale is our American interpretation of a hoppy saison. Belgian pilsner malt provides the base for an abundance of American hops and our farmhouse yeast to shine together in this refreshing ale.

Draught @ Malt and Mold. Cloudy pale yellow with small frothy white head, citrus aroma, medium carbonation, lemon peel taste, thin body, medium bitter lemon peel finish. Quite citrusy, but nice.

At Jeffrey. Clear golden white frothy head. Nose is barnyard and some citrus. Tastes of banana, herbal, barnyard, white bread, peach, and musky. Decent but some slight odd flavors on aftertaste.

Tap at Oxbow. It pours hazy golden with a decent white head. The nose is fresh, juicy, funky, earth, bread, orange sherbet, peach and grass. The taste is crisp, bitter, cracker, pale bread, pepper, orange zest, light custard and grass with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Aroma is particularly nice. Decent stuff.

On tap at Oxbow, Portland. A dense, white head forms curtains over an unclear, yellow colored body. Citrus, orange mostly, and some pale malts in the aroma. There’s a decent bitterness in the mouth, it’s dry and medium bodied, with oranges, citrus zest and a weak malty backdrop. Soft carbonation, and a lasting bitter, almost herbal finish. Yet another nice saison from Oxbow. 150609

Draught at Portland location, 6/19/15
Mildly hazy beeswax colored body has some lighter tangerine hues and a medium-sized white head that receded to cover rapidly.
Tangy, spicy and heavily fruity hoppiness in the nose still allows for light honeyed malts and graceful esters to break through, greeting the nose with some acidity, breadiness and moderate bitterness.
Straightforward citrus hoppiness gives a moderately bitter base, while comforting, well-extrated pils malt adds dough, honey and bread leading to a wonderfully dry finish replete with esters, light peppery phenols and just a hint of rusticity. Maybe a touch too much fruit and citrus emerge, overall, in concert with some bready maltiness and light bubble gum esters, but it adds more body and makes it a little more assertive. Other than that, though, there’s little/no resin, no sugariness and no alcohol or flaws. A delicious, world-class flagship beer, by anyone’s standard.

On tap @Ma che siete venuti a fà (Rome). Corpo medio-leggero, carbonazione buona. Davvero una gran bella birra.
