A stout at this time of year? You’re crazy, Polly’s! Don’t hate the player – any time of the year is a good time of the year for a big bold stout, and with our brew team looking to expand upon the beers they’re creating for our brand new taproom, Something Pure was born.
A natural progression from our recent breakfast stout collaboration with Wrexham Bean Co, this beer substitutes bold coffee notes for gooey fudge flavours.
Letting the malt do the majority of the talking, we’ve brought no fewer than seven specialty malts to the party here, imparting a whole host of decadent chocolate notes, with a heavy lashing of milk sugar to up the fudgey sweetness to the max. A treat for all the senses, and a perfect dessert beer.

3/1/2026. Can at Polly’s Kesgrave beer share, courtesy of ITFCfan. Pours very dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma is chocolate, fudge cake, vanilla, coffee, caramel, crème brûlée. Medium plus sweetness, moderate roasted bitterness. Sweetness suits it lovely. Very nice.

On tap at Ebenezers, Nantwich. Pours almost black with a small tan head and good lacing. The aroma is strongly fudgey but there’s also toffee and roasted malts to be found. In the mouth it is sweet, smooth and creamy. Fudge is again to the fore, alongside roasted malts and alcoholic strength, with some chocolate and lactose coming through later. Finish is malty and boozy. This is decent – but a bit too sweet for me.

440ml can bought at Vinmonopolet Langnes. Fawn coloured head diminishing over a coal black body, rich lacing. Roasted chocolate malty aromas, rather sweet, inviting. Taste of chocolate malts joined by cocoa and a backdrop of coffee, moderately lactose beneath. Smoothly roasted, mid-sweet, malty finish. Rounded mouthfeel. Decent stout. (Tromsø, 12.08.2025).

440ml can. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of toffee, fudge, dark chocolate, light roast malts. Taste is genuinely quite fudgey, plenty of toffee, dark chocolate, lactose sweetness, a little roasty bitterness. Medium bodied, smooth.
For a "fudge stout" without fudge in it potential disappointment was avoided, Polly's did a good job here.
