While it's early history is as ancient as it is murky, the modern Irish Red Ale evolved from the English Pale in the early 1700s. The merchant families of Kilkenny, Ireland worked to craft their own Pale Ales, fueled by the area's abundant farmlands. While the recipes changed hands as breweries were forced to close their doors, today's Irish Red traces its roots to the Sullivan and Smithwick families, working out of St. Francis Abbey around 1710. This recipe focused less on hops and more on barley and the kilned malty flavors we know and love, giving the ale it's signature red hue.
Our Beoir Dearg (BYOR-eh JYAR'ek, Gaelic for "Red Beer") is characterized by it's Pale Ale roots, caramel-toffee notes and delicious roasted malt profile. It has a low to moderate bitterness and a slightly sweet finish.

16oz can from Brewers Haven. Dark, clear amber pour, off-white foamy head fades away to a thin film. Malty aroma, earthy, nutty. Taste is malty with minor sweetness. Abrupt finish.
