Bottle. Pour was almost a gusher, which had me worried. Initial aromas were almost infected, but maybe that was panic on my part. Subsequent approaches showed aromas of rye, chocolate and a vague hops presence that might be in the tropical/resin category... Flavor is a little sharp... Again... could be initial stages of infection, but it has a slight edginess to it that doesn’t fit... Chocolate dominates the malt and the hops profile is more in the \"bitter without path\" category than anything else. The whole thing kind of wobbles a bit out of orbit, but it merits a second try to see if I just hit a lousy bottle.

This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a black color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. Light lacing trickled around the sides of the glass.
The smell started off with a light roasty and kind of burnt/char perhaps and then allowed a decent bitter citrus to come across lightly.
The taste was pretty much the same as the smell.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. The carbonation had enough harshness to tell me it’s a black IPA. The roastiness rolling over my tongue carried the char in itbas well.
Overall, good black IPA, could possibly come back to.

Bottle thanks to Sean! Pours dark brown with a lot sediment and a brown head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has a bit of pine hops with backing roasted malts and a bit of underlying rye. Flavor had roasted malts with a growing pine note with a hint of backing rye.

On tap at HopCat, Grand Rapids. Deep garnet red-brown body, thick tan head with good lacing. Spicy, leafy nose with chocolate notes. Spicy body, herbal and leafy, primarily characterized by chocolate and pine. Dry, bitter finish. Good complexity. Nice beer.
