Using all Canadian ingredients, including malt from Hogarth Malt (Olds, AB) and hops from Myrtle Meadows (Pemberton, BC), Laandbier is a liquid ode to Mitch’s travels in Franconia last month. With light whiffs of doughy malt notes and the herbal spice of noble hops, Laandbier is a crisp and refreshing journey through Canadian soil. Draught only.

Quite pale, bright, mellow spicy continental hop, low bitterness, fairly clean but this doesn’t seem like a yeast you want to let run free anyway. Even in Nürnberg there would be more bitterness, let alone Bamberg kreis, so this left some upside on the table.

On tap at the brewery. Pours clear blonde with a white head. Lots of dry grass and straw on the nose. Flavour is dry and rustic with lots of dry grass and straw. Pleasant enough, drinks clean, but not super interesting.

On tap at The Magnet, pours a clear blonde with a large, foamy white head. Nose has bready malt, straw, and some toasted graininess. Flavour is pretty timid, with doughy malt, toasted bread, and crunchy straw. Very low bitterness. Clean and reasonably made but pretty uninteresting.
