On tap at Ocean Beach brewpub. Opaque black pour. Small tan ring. Roasted malt aroma. Notes of soy sauce and licorice. Rich and roasty with earthy rye notes. Molasses, dark chocolate and burnt ends. Sticky to a fault. Some spiciness. Nicely done!

Weirdly for one of these big hefty stouts this really isn't for me. I dunno if it's just a combination of very dry things which I'd like in isolation but are a bit much for me together but it's just a lot of dry, earthy bitterness and I'd like a bit of something to balance it out.

Sample at the North Park taproom. Pitch black pour with a medium thick khaki head that diminishes gradually to a film. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of roast malt, coffee, rye and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of charred malt, dark chocolate, rye malt and earthy hops. The finish is roasty with a spicy rye and coffee aftertaste. Above average overall.
