What a let down, I love this breweries Alt beers and assumed their other beers would be just as good, wrong! This was the fourth beer of my German and lager based tasting evening in Aug 2011. The beer was poured into a Weizen glass and looked the business: murky, dull amber with the usual huge head sat on top, just like all the best Hefeweizen. Where was the normal aromas of vanilla and banana, no cloves or anything else for that matter. The beer wasn’t fresh, only having one week before it’s best before date, but that shouldn’t stop it from having a smell. The taste was also a let down, wheaty yes, Hefeweizen flavours, no. Really disappointed with this beer, maybe I and my friend missed something, but I don’t think so.

Bottle. A hazy orange-golden beer under a finger-thick, creamy, off-white head. Grainy, citrusy nose with some banana and cloves. Hints of bubble-gum and herbs. The flavor is sweet, malty and bananaish. Some bubble-gum and cloves blend in. There’s a slightly vegetal touch to it, which amplifies in the finsh. Medium body, effervescent and medium-sweet. Overall, its a decent beer, but if you examine it a bit closer, there’s a touch of burnt plastic that sort of ruins the experience. I probably over-rate it. 091010

500ml bottle from Real, Munchengladbach. Hazy pale gold, rocky off white head. Bit soapy, alcohol is a bit obvious. Not much of a weizen. More like a lager than a weizen. Pretty poor

Bottle, 5.4%. Yeasty, citric aroma. Cloudy orange colour. Very big, stable white head. The flavour is quite spicy with fresh pepper and other notes uncommon in wheat beer. Nice yeast flavour like from white bread. A nicely rustic beer, not a typical Weizen, but good.
