Originating as a cask-only version of our Tankhouse Ale, Tankenstein is a dry-hopped IPA with full body and matching bitterness. It is a perfectly balanced ale with caramel and biscuit malts complementing the dryness of US grown bittering hops but with a massive over-lay of American Cascade hops being added to the tank during ageing to “dry-hop” the beer and give it a wonderful perfumey character. Grapefruit and piney resinous tones are the main contribution of the Cascades and make this a truly classic American-style IPA. It’s ALIVE!!!!!!

Seriously.....a wax dipped swing top, come on! This screams carbonation issues, and sealing issies. Sure enough, my beer was flat. Well done mill street. Dark copper, zero head. Aroma is the regular tankhouse but sweeter. Super earthy hops, wood, grass, and so,e orange rind. Malts are sticky, and bready, and very sweet. Mouth feel is thin, and the beer is stone cold flat. Fimish is boozy, and sweet, with big earthy notes. Its just a boozy medicore tankhouse.

Draft at the St John's location. Slightly hazy golden yellow color. Mixed citrus aroma. Taste is bitter dried fruit. Light body. The most drinkable of the session.

Wax over flip-top 750ml bottle from the LCBO. Tag with a string, written 29 SEP 2015. Pours a clean deep amber colour with a light-beige head, good retention and some streaky creamy lacing. Big grassy nose over caramel malts. Even some hints of vanilla at one point, so does get better as it breathes. Same for the taste. Not liking the hoppy taste at first, but does get better. Seems not well-blended at first. Notes of oranges with the grass. I do like the Tankhouse, but this one is not for me. Not a fan of the hops and their balance in this.

On tap at St Augustine's, pours a hazy copper with a small beige head. Aroma brings out lots of dry hopping with a dry biscuity malt backing. Flavour certainly brings out the cascade hopping, with lots of dry hoppiness, a touch of pine, a touch o resin, and a caramel biscuity malt backbone. Well-balanced, with just enough sweetness to back the dry hoppiness. Very solid IPA.

Growler - Caramel and piney hops. Clearish with a decent white head. Woody, slight pine and bitterness with some resin. OK.
