Sam set out to make a hazy, overly pale beer but the test batches weren’t quite there yet. However, during that process he found out how great coconuts work in an IPA and decided that the new goal was to make an IPA using as much coconut as possible. We started with a combination of Pils malt with flaked barley, rolled oats, and malted and raw wheat to get it all hazy. Then we introduced coconuts three ways by adding toasted coconut, dehydrated coconut water and an experimental hop variety that provides a unique coconut & woody aroma.
The result? A lupulin-loaded, coconut-centric ale. Our Lupu-Luau IPA!

Bottle. Maybe it's just me but try as I might I could not get any coconut out of this. Just IPA bitterness.

Backlog. Hazy light gold pour. Aroma of coconut and tropical fruit with hops. The flavor is moderately bitter with fruity hops, coconut, and grainy malt. Pretty good.

Crisp and quite hazy golden and light peach coloured body, all with a very thin, single centimetre tall pure white head. Aroma of coconut, light tropical fruit, some grassy and very herbal hop notes and a dash of biscuity and slightly grainy malts towards the end, especially. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive tropical frui flavours show through with a lot of hop bitterness from the grassy and herbal notes with a light citrus twang and a dose of dry grainy flavours with the toasted coconuts definitely noticeable at the finish - interesting! Aftertaste is robust with a good balance of malt and hops with of course more of the focus on the hops, but showing some softer sweet notes from all the fruits and a dash of the bitterness and grainy flavours as well. Overall, a nicely structured, well-balanced and rather fruity beer with a good layering of tropical fruits and more pungent bitterness from the hops, all combined nicely. I sampled this twelve ounce can given to me after my hockey game on 05-June-2019 from Jacob - Thanks, sampled on the roof here in Arlington, Virginia.

Pours clear dark golden with a thick white head. Aroma of lemongrass hops. Taste has heavy coconut notes with slight hops elements accompanying. Palate is entirely dominated by a coconut nose note. Not great if you don't like coconuts.

12 oz. can, pours a clear pale golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out a touch of coconut, with citrus hops and biscuity malt. Flavour is a bit jagged, with citrus hops, a touch of coconut and some biscuity malt. Not particularly well-designed, but it works okay.
