Myrkvi is an unfiltered full-bodied Porter Ale with a dark twist. It is seasoned with coffee from Huila in the southwest of Colombia, specially roasted by Reykjavík Roasters. The coffee gives this ale its depth in cooperation with a variety of roasted malts. Myrkvi is an Icelandic given name, meaning the dark one.

Bottle at Hundholmen, Bod. Pours a dark brown to black colour with a beige head. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt, ash and nougat. Lots of dark chocolate and ash in the flavour along with leather and some coffee beans. Has a slick mouth feel and a medium body and bitterness. Roasted and nice.

Bottle from Vinbudin, Hevragerdi. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - big coffee bean note, dark chocolate. Taste - more coffee bit the chocolate and biscuits come through more which gives it more balance. Palate - creamy and medium bodied. Nice enough taper on the end. Overall - the nose had too much coffee but glad that the taste was very complex and if slips down at 6%.

Bottle shared with Ashton McCobb. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aromas of coffee, roast hazelnuts, chocolate. Taste is dark chocolate, hint of coffee, more nuttiness. Could be fuller-bodied, but not bad.

33 cl bottle purchased as a single at Vínbúðin Egilsstaðir in Egilsstaðir, Iceland. The pour is dark brown black with a well formed one inch khaki head. The aroma is softly sweet vanilla and chocolate, roasted malt, coffee and dark fruit. The taste is a nice blend of the sweet notes of vanilla and chocolate beautifully cut by the roast matl and finishing with fruit character. The palate is medium to heavy bodied with clean roast finish. Really nice Porter, one of the top beers I had during my Iceland trip.
