English-Style Barleywine Ale Aged in Bourbon Barrels
For our 10th anniversary we made a celebratory Barleywine with our friend and brewing legend Alan Sprints of Hair of the Dog Brewery before he retired. And then, since Alan helped pioneer barrel-aging beer in the US, we pulled off a portion and put it to rest in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels for a full year. Strong notes of bourbon-soaked chocolate, banana muffin, and cherry caramels with a rich, oaky finish.

Hops: Magnum, East Kent Golding

Amber and opaque. No head. Sticky sugars, toffee, dee fruitness. On the palate it’s burly, strong, lots of sweet sugars, a bit of bourbony vanilla. Good complexity to it.

Aroma: lots of caramel, oak, moderately sweet, creamy.
Taste: along the same lines, fruity, moderately sweet, nice oak notes, vanilla.

Keg at hop butcher. Pours hazy orange amber, nose is caramel, citrus, marzipan, vanilla, coconut, taste is similar, sweet, chewy, loads of barrel. 8/9/9/8/8
