Our Cinnamon Raisin Commodore is truly a story of experimentation. Originally a gold-medal winning American stout first born in our R&D program, our brewers developed a new variation, adding cinnamon and raisins to this dark, bittersweet brew. The result is just the right amount of sweet and spice, with roasty maltiness at the helm.

Bottle from CraftShack. Pours dark brown with a dark tan head. Aroma of chocolate, milky malt and some cinnamon. Med body. Flavor is heavily cinnamon. There’s also a raisin aspect - like sucking on dry dark raisins. I think I can find some chocolate. Nice, but I think the cinnamon is a little overdone.

Bottle from Wine Warehouse. Pours black with a medium brown head. Aromas of chocolate and coffee, hints of raisin. Flavor is chocolate, raisin, cinnamon, nuts. It’s tasty except not a fan of the aftertaste. EDITED TO ADD: as this beer warmed, the more I liked it. Gave it an extra overall point.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from One Stop Market. Appearance is dark, dark brown with slight reddish hue with light source directly behind, brown sediment at sides of glass, no sparkle, less-than-finger-width creamy foam reddish-brown head with poor retention and fair leggy lacing. Aroma is strong cinnamon with raisin over dark chocolatey, roasted malt base. Taste is sweet cinnamon mixed with strong roasted malt, with raisin balanced by late pleasant bitter. Palate is medium-to-full bodied with thick texture, soft-to-average carbonation and finish that is more bitter than taste. Overall, the cinnamon raisin dominate, as I suppose they should but I haven’t had the straight Commodore to know how they change things up. Good but I’d prefer the cinnamon raisin to be adjuncts that bring a nuanced twist to the straight beer rather than dominating it.

Draft. A- Cinnamon, french toast, cereal. A- Black color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Cinnamon, oatmeal raisin cookies, roasty. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, mildly bitter finish. O- Interesting. The cinnamon is there and the raisin is there. Not sure how well it works, but it does make for an intriguing beer.

Pretty nicely done. Cinnamon and raisin fold in well like origami. Neither is overdone. Big roast here still and some dark chocolate. A little caramel. Bittersweet finish. Black pour with decent head. Bottle.

On tap at Ballast Point - Scripps Ranch, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out lots of cinnamon upfront, followed by raisins and light cocoa. Flavour is aggressive on the cinnamon upfront, followed by light toasted cocoa and some raisins. This is a total cinnamon bomb. Okay.

Bottle from West Side. Pours a deep brown to black with a half finger of foam that dissipates quickly. Dark, bitter, charred cacao nose. As it warms the cinnamon stick really starts to overtake the cacao. Roasty, dark malt on the palate, with a touch of char. Then underneath comes cinnamon stick with prune. Roasty, bitter finish with lingering cinnamon. Nice. --- Beer merged from original tick of Cinnamon Raisin Commodore on 31 Jan 2017 at 19:06 - Score: 7.
