This is limited-release, collab beer is brewed at Irrational Brewing Co. and aged at Trial & Ale Brewing. The process used for ageing Irrational Trials is called solera, i.e. fractional blending in a way that the finished product is a mixture of ages, with the average age gradually increasing, as the process continues over many years. Maintaining a solera with fractional portions of each batch remaining in the barrels leads to a familiarity from release to release.

The idea behind the project is the combination of two worlds. The beautiful farmhouse ales produced @irrationalbrewing , that use the finest locally sourced malts from Alberta’s top maltsters @hogarthmalt , pair perfectly with the microbe saturated oak @trialandale cellars. This project is intended to produce wild farmhouse ales with depth, character, and charm.

From both of our breweries, we hope you enjoy our little solera project!

750mL bottle, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma has a musty, earthy, rustic saison yeast, and muffled oak. Flavour is highly acidic, with an unfortunate amount of acetone, rustic saison yeast, and muffled earthiness. Not a pleasant yeast character and way too acetonic. Just not good.

Amber. Bright. No head. The aroma here is a bit acidic, fungal, and then we have a bit of acetone. On the palate, tart. Acetic. A touch of acetone. So, this, was it basically a Trial & Ale beer blended with a golden ale from Irrational. Sort of oaky. But this doesn't really work. Again, the base is overly acidic, lacks complexity, and there's only so much you can do with that.

750mL bottle. Pours clear gold with a white head. Weird yeast expression, like moldy vegetables a bit. Flavour is fucked, like there was a mold growth in the tank; acidic, bad must, rotting vegetables. This is really just not good.
