The aroma and flavor of this classic hefeweizen (or weissbier/wheat beer with yeast) is decidedly fruity with clove, nutmeg-like and even vanilla-like phenolics. Banana-like esters are also present. This beer is made with over 50 percent malted wheat, and hop rates are quite low, with hop flavor and aroma being absent. Hefeweizen is well attenuated and very highly carbonated, yet its relatively high starting gravity and alcohol content make it a medium-full bodied beer. The color is very pale. Because yeast is present, the beer will have yeast flavor and a characteristically fuller mouthfeel and is appropriately very cloudy.

Can pour into pub glass from Total Wine & More, Burlington. Appearance is hazy, pale orange-yellow with vigorous sparkle, a few dark floaties, finger-plus width fizzy white head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is wheat, clove, slightest banana. Taste is sour fruit, wheat, mild clove. Palate is medium side of light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture, soft-to-average carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, I suspect this sat for too long (born 10/18), which might account for muted clove/banana and more tart/sour. That tart/sourness definitely detracted from the beer, at least for me. Like many establishments, particularly those that offer singles, Total Wines often seem to have a lot of questionably fresh beers on their single shelves. Caveat emptor.

Sampled on draft at 3 Rivers this beer poured a murky golden-peach color with a small foamy white head that faded and left no lacing. The aroma was dryish and musty with bread crust and perfume. The flavor was phenol, mustiness, medicine and perfume. Medium length finish with lingering medicine. Medium body. Quite disappointing.

Grain, grapenuts, banana aroma. Hazy amber, thick head. Mealy wheat, unripe banana. Medium body, easy carbonation. Real German yeast, which makes all the difference.

Can. Hazy yellow pour with a very small white head;especially so for a Hefe. Aroma of doughy yeast and banana. The flavor is fruity, lightly sweet some banana. OK

12 ounce can into weizen glass, canned on 721/2015. Pours hazy golden yellow color with a 2 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big banana, bubblegum, clove, vanilla, lemon, wheat, biscuit, light honey/nuttiness, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big banana, bubblegum, clove, vanilla, lemon, wheat, biscuit, light honey/nuttiness, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal bitterness, yeast spiciness, and wheat tang on the finish; with lingering notes of banana, bubblegum, clove, vanilla, lemon, wheat, biscuit, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth and creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.2%. Overall this is a great hefeweizen. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and bready malt flavors; and very smooth and refreshing to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Pour is a cloudy orange with a soda like fizzy white head that was gone in a second. Aroma has that banana and clove thing going to let you know this is a hefe and not a wheat beer. Flavor is actually more of a wheat beer than a hefe. Wheat and honey malt mostly with hardly any clove or banana. Also this was way under carbonated and almost flat. It says boycott bland on the side of the can but this was about as bland as it gets.
