Bottle at THT. Slight hazy straw with small white head. Light spicy, soft white pepper and a touch of lemon. Light soft dough. Light sweet and bitter. Under medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. Yeah it’s boring but yeah it’s drinkable and I like it.

At the Manuscript pub in Ostend, for which this is made. Name changed to PoppoLou Classic since the introduction of the dry-hopped version; apparently the name PoppoLou is a combination of the names of the two children of Vanessa, the lovely lady who runs the pub together with her partner. Very thick and frothy, creamy, heavily lacing, off-white head over a cloudy yellowish blonde beer with somewhat greenish hue. Aroma of green malts, white bread, redcurrant, yellow raspberry, unripe peach, bitter honey, freshly cut nettles and a hint of rainwater. Fruity, crisp onset of green apple, pineapple and green plum, spritzy carbonation, smooth, full and lightly oily mouthfeel, gentle pale malt sweetishness, a bit ’rough’ on the edges perhaps, but ending in a grassy and lightly herbal hop bitterishness providing sufficient balance. Not bad at all, there are no technical errors or off-flavours here, but I expected more from this one. Still, I would surely order it again the next time I get to the Manuscript.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Niilstrong. Hazy pale yellow color, average sized white to off-white head. Smell and taste lightly malts, subtle hoppy, lightly grassy, slightly citrussy. Pretty nice. Well done.
