Named for a locally-loved section of Folly Beach, Washout Wheat is an excellent hot weather beer, and our first wheat beer. We checked the overdone spice additions of coriander and orange peel at the door, and instead let the wheat and the yeast work their respective magic. The notes of banana and clove come entirely from that magic, not from any additional ingredients. The end result is a no frills wheat experience, one that quenches your thirst with no extra hang-ups.

Sample at GABF 10/03/2014, thanks to my sis for assistance with note-taking. Hazy orange color with a medium thin off-white head that recedes quickly. Short strings of lace. Aroma of malt, spice and banana. Light-bodied with flavors of herbal wheat, toasted malt and banana. The finish is sweet with a citrus and banana aftertaste. Decent overall.

Can courtesy of weihenweizen. Banana-orange and weird funky wheat malt aroma. Hazy honey gold with a small quickly dissipating white head. Sweet banana, bubblegum, wheat malt. and light bitter clove flavor. Medium body, moderate carbonation. Overall it was a bit too sweet.

Refrigerated 12 oz. aluminum can poured into a weizen glass. Murky light orange with very small white head. Aroma is slightly off clove, medium body, medium/light carbonation, and little small-bubble lacing. Taste is clove, bubblegum, and some banana. Not a bad attempt at a hefeweizen, but not blue ribbon winner.
